Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDR. MICHAEL LOVELL HARVEY Dr. Michael Lovell Harvey died unexpectedly in Winnipeg, Manitoba on October 29, 2018, at the age of 87. Michael is survived and sadly missed by his sister Jenny Currie, daughter Sonia (Adrian) O'Brien, son Jim Harvey, daughter Jo (Stephen) Carter, sons, Nick (Vonda) Harvey, and Martin (Amber) Harvey, 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Dana, his mother Iris, and his father Donald. Michael was born on June 6, 1931 in Willsbridge, England to Iris and Donald Harvey. He graduated from the Bristol University in 1955 with a degree in Medicine. He began his medical career working at the Bristol General Hospital. Thereafter, he was posted in Gutersloh, Germany as an R.A.F. doctor with the No# 2 Group. During his two years there, Sonia and Jim were welcomed into the family. He immigrated to Canada in 1959 practicing in the small hamlet of Carmenville in Newfoundland. He spent the next 10 years having a rewarding practice in various places in the Maritimes and Jo, Nick and Martin were added to the family. After obtaining his Psychiatry Degree from Dalhousie University in Halifax in 1965, he moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba, along with his family, and began practicing at the Misericordia Hospital while starting his private practice. Michael was re-married in 1986 to Dana Annett and they settled first in Nelson, BC and later in Campbell River. At the end of his career, Michael practiced Psychiatry in Saipan on a military base in the South Pacific. For their final 25 years together, Dana and Michael moved to Honduras to build a home. They endured Hurricane Mitch which inflicted a large human toll and eventually an economic toll on the country of Honduras. It would have made sense to abandon their dream and Honduras at that point in time. Besides loving their home, they remained there to be a support to their community. Health issues brought them home to Canada in November 2017. Dana would pass away shortly after arriving in Canada on January 24, Michael never fully settled joining Dana in October 2018. Michael was a consummate teacher of his children. He exposed them to many ideas and challenges which helped shape them to always "think outside the box". He filled their early childhood with artistic projects, discussions on the human body and the mind, recorder playing, raucous polka dances, cardboard masterpieces, and mechanics. His children remember him as a generous man to those he encountered in his world; he truly lived to help others. Michael was a gifted artist and created works that reflected his compassion for others through the media of paint, clay and photography. Although a bulk of his life had been spent abroad, his impact on our lives has been great. A time to remember his life was held on November 1 in Winnipeg.
