• My deepest condolences on the passing of your mother, Sheila. Sheila was my dearest friend when I was living in Winnipeg. Continuing contact after I moved to Ottawa became difficult; however, she was always in my thoughts. She brought great joy to my life. I shall miss her greatly. • Sheila East was my friend and next door neighbour while my son Rory and I lived in One Evergreen Place. She loved her garden and delighted in her daily swims in the large heated pool in the interior of One Evergreen. The garden was only made possible because of the large exterior balcony. I, too, treasured the balcony as I had it enclosed to make an extra room for my son to work on his computer, and to have a space that looked outside. It is not easy raising a son in an apartment block, but because of the pool, normally open all years, that made it bearable. When Sandy Shindelman decided to block off the balconies and close the pool, allegedly for another set of pool upgrades, Sheila decided to move out. I so well recall her children coming in vans to remove her wonderful plants from the balcony at One Evergreen. We were given only three days notice of the changes. Sheila chose to move here to the Rivard Apartments. She was a wonderful neighbour and friend. Sorry I have read this obituary too late to attend her service. Shelley G.
