MORRIS KAGAN With heavy hearts we mourn the loss of our dear husband, father and zaida on December 3, 2018. Morris is survived by his wife Donna; his children, Elaine Graham, Rhonda Byrnes (Ron), and Jamie A. Kagan (Jackie); his grandsons, Joshua Kagan, Jackson Kagan and Jacob Kagan; and one very spoiled family dog Abby. Morris was born in Winnipeg's North End on June 26, 1933 to loving parents, Sonia and Harry, both of whom predeceased. At a young age he joined his father in the electrical trade and after his father's death Morris carried on the business as an electrical contractor under the name Harry's Electric Service Ltd. until he retired in 1997. When he became bored with staying home and to escape his wife's expectation of help around the house, Morris started part time work at a St. James law firm. He enjoyed the work but mostly he liked having an excuse to go downtown every day and have coffee with "the boys" at Metro Motors. He retired from his second career in 2016. Optimistic, outgoing and enthusiastic, Morris loved to chat with almost anyone. He liked people and anything mechanical with a motor. Almost all of his life-long friendships came about as a result of his enthusiasm for snowmobiles, motorcycles and especially motor car racing, particularly Formula I. Although he was very much a guy's guy Morris genuinely liked the company of women whether it be his wife and daughters or friends and acquaintances. He enjoyed nothing more than dressing up and taking his wife out somewhere nice for dinner or sitting in the backyard with Donna enjoying a glass of wine while watching the river and wildlife. Morris loved travelling anywhere anytime. Palm Springs was a perennial favourite but Morris and Donna also performed the duties of deckhands as they sailed the Virgin Islands on a 40-foot sailboat with friends several times. There were many cruises, trips to Europe and long stays in Australia and New Zealand. Interspersed with the more exotic locations and just as much fun, were many trips to motor sport racetracks in North America, particularly Wisconsin. Morris loved people and embraced the adventure that was his life wholly and completely. He was a generous, kind and gentle man. He loved and supported and was proud of his family. His was a life well lived and although we will miss him always we are so grateful to have had him for the time we did. Our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the staff of the Simkin Centre, particularly Unit 2 South for the outstanding care they gave Morris for the past eight months and the compassion and care shown to Morris and the family during his last days. Funeral service was on December 6, 2018 at Congregation Etz Chayim and interment at B'Nai Abraham followed by a meal of condolence.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Ah, Morris, I so enjoyed visiting with you at RBC when I was working there. You were always entertaining, interesting and a pleasure! We began our acquaintanceship based on our ‘tribal’ connection and carried on from there. Sincere condolences to Morris’s family on his passing. May he rest in peace (and dance!) - Posted by: Marla (Friend) on: Dec 05, 2018
