CYNTHIA ANN MELOSKY November 29, 1957 - December 3, 2018 Beautiful Cynthia left us on Monday, December 3, 2018, shedding the pernicious shackles of cancer and finding peace and serenity as she passed at home, with her favourite playlist warming the air, surrounded by her family and friends. Cynthia was a bright light to all who knew her, illuminating their lives with her smile, her laugh, her fabulous new clothes and her fierce friendship and love. Her life was rich and constantly filled with family gatherings, skiing in the mountains, sailing the ocean, travelling the world and enjoying cocktail hour at her family's cottage in Falcon Lake, MB. She also loved what she did as an architect and the people that made it possible, including those who made her job easier, those who challenged her and the many who helped her realize her visions for a project to be "the way it should be", as she often said. Cynthia is survived by Phil Cook, her husband of 34 years, and Ali and Jamie, the daughter and son that gave her such pride and joy. She is also survived by her father and mother, Dr. Louis and Mary Melosky; her sisters, Diane Snidal (Dan), Dr. Barb Melosky (Jim Johnston) and Cheryl Melosky (Carl Brown); as well as her brother and sisters-in-law, Gord Cook (Sandy Parkinson), Terry Hillhouse (Brian), Pat Cook (Fanta Sow-Cook) and Jo-Anne Cook (Dr. Michael Carthy). Raised between Winnipeg and Seattle, Cynthia followed her dreams of being an architect after graduating from the University of Manitoba to Vancouver, where she began her career with Rhone Morton Architects and later Terry Hale Architects. From designing homes she went on to building them, starting with United Properties and then Polygon Homes, where she was Vice President, Development for the past 18 years. The family would like to thank Cynthia's exceptional care team: Dr. Caroline Lohrisch, who walked with Cynthia these last 10 years and more recently the amazing staff at the BC Cancer Agency for their care and compassion. They all made Cynthia's time living with cancer a little easier and a little more tolerable. A memorial service will be held for Cynthia on Friday, December 14, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Augustines Parish, 2028 W 7th Ave., Vancouver, BC. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the BC Cancer Foundation in the name of Cynthia Melosky.

  • While at the 50th anniversary of Shaftesbury High School, I was stunned to learn of Cindy's death. Cindy and I were schoolmates (I cannot say "classmates" as she was a year ahead) at TP, Laidlaw and then TSHS. When I was in Gr 5 (and she was in Gr 6) we were school patrol partners...she always took the meridian and I took the boulevard on the north side of Corydon at Hansart. Those were our spots and that was just the way it was. We remained "passing in the hallway" nod friends through junior high and high school. As the younger of the two of us, always was a big deal for me though I am sure quite inconsequential for her, yet she never failed to acknowledge me and I never forgot that kindness. I am so very sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Tom Saunders (Former schoolmate) on: May 06, 2019

  • Dear Diane and Family, I was so sorry to hear about Cynthia's passing. She was a beautiful teenager that I always looked up to and wanted to be just like! She was very tolerant of us younger kids, although I am sure she often rolled her eyes at us! She obviously lived a wonderful and rich life and, while it was too short, I hope that offers you all some comfort. - Posted by: Catherine Brown (Macoomb) (friend) on: Mar 03, 2019

  • We are truly saddened to learn of Cynthia's passing and our heartfelt sympathy is with each of you. We have been blessed to have known Cynthia, surrounded by her elegance, brilliant intelligence and wit as no other we know. Falcon Lake brought us together and over the past years allowed us time together, happy hour and sing alongs included. For the Cook and Melosky families, Cynthia was your wife, mother, daughter & sister who will forever be in your hearts, as well, her life was fulfilled and enriched by the love each of you bestowed on her. We are thinking of you and sending our love. - Posted by: Ken & Leslie Middleton and family (Friend) on: Dec 12, 2018
