Quan was born in Tai Shan, China. He worked as a farmer, a bookkeeper and administrator until he immigrated to Canada in 1985 where he worked in various vocations to provide for his family. He never shied away from hard work and would gladly help anyone whom needed it. He worked well into his 70s, retiring only at the insistence of his children. It was his drive to secure a bright future for his family that allowed him to go to work with a smile day after day. Quan was many things to many people, but what he will be most remembered for are being a loyal, devoted and obedient son, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a humble man with a gentle soul and a big heart who always thought of others before himself. He enjoyed games of chance and was skilled at Mahjong. He was a mellow person who enjoyed his walks. His intellect, wisdom and stories passed onto his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren but, most of all, bestowing the values of hard work and perseverance. He was not only a joker with a quick wit but a profound advisor. He was known to be stubborn and particular but always had a lot of love to share with his family; he was the epitome of selfless love. He always strived to give the best first impression and all those that knew him, grew to respect and love him. Even with many faced obstacles, he was a fighter until the very end and celebrated life every day. He truly personified the sayings "Mind over Matter and Beating the Odds".
