Julie was born January 14, 1918 in Winnipeg, to Elisabeth (Betty) Christensen and Arnold (Olie) Gunnar Wind Anderson, both who immigrated to Canada from Denmark, Copenhagen in 1915. Julie was predeceased by her parents, her brother (Peter Anderson), sister (Kirsten Gruggen), her first husband, James Murray McCaig, with whom she had three children; her husband Hugh (H.A.L.) She is survived by her sons, Duncan (Sandra) and Robert (Rhona Pike); grandchildren, Murray (Stephanie), Kelly (Grace), Amy (Dean), Jennifer (Tom), Melissa (Tamer), Eamon (Anne), Sarah (Ian), Katie (Sean), Oliver (Jayne) and 19 great-grandchildren, Stella, Will, Isla, Juan, Sullivan, Chancellor, Ella, Sadie, Tallulah, Hannah, Jackson, Grace, Weston, Finn, Owen, Eva, Chaplynn, Alexander and Zaid. As a child, Julie and her family returned to live in Denmark for a period of time, prior to returning to Portage La Prairie, where her family ran the landmark, Olie's Cafe and where she married Murray McCaig. The McCaig family later moved to Winnipeg and raised their children in St. James. Julie was a longstanding member of St. James Anglican Church, where she sang in the choir. Julie completed a secretarial course and worked at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg up until she married Hugh Tibbetts, a longtime friend and they retired to Victoria, BC, where they lived until Tib's death, following which, she returned to live in Winnipeg with her daughter Paula. Together she and Tib travelled extensively and spent their summers at Rainy Lake. Following Paula's death, Julie resided in Sturgeon Creek Retirement Home, where she was the on the welcoming committee and active in many of their activities. She was an avid walker and could be seen frequently throughout the community. Julie, a centenarian, was a 100 years young and celebrated her 100th birthday in Misericordia Place, surrounded by family. She had a zest for life and enjoyed dancing, curling, golf, bridge, knitting, a scotch and an occasional cigar. She was an accomplished chef and entertained friends and family with many a Danish smorgasbord. It was Julie's wish to be buried in the Anderson/McCaig family plot in Hillside Cemetery, Portage La Prairie, Manitoba. Cremation has taken place and a private family gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart Foundation or charity of choice. Heartfelt thanks to the staff at Misericordia Place for their compassion and care of Julie in her final years.
