She is survived by her daughter Lynda (Andrew Cassel); sons, Alan, Arthur (Shari), and Fred (Carol); and grandchildren, David, Daniel (Masako), and Erin Cassel, Ryan and Macey Standil; and great-grandchildren, Nova and Terra Cassel. She is also survived by her brother Dr. Percy Goldberg, and brother-in-law Dr. Jerry Litman. She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Dr. Sidney Standil; her parents, Flossie and Morris Goldberg; her sister and brother-in-law Eileen and Barry Tessler; her brother Stanley; and her sisters-in-law, Reva Litman and Elaine Goldberg. Adele was born in Winnipeg on November 5, 1927. The youngest of four, Adele spent her first 12 years in Altona, Manitoba. In 1939, the family moved to Winnipeg and established its home on Glenwood Crescent. At the age of 16, she enrolled at the University of Manitoba where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts. From there, she set up her own business, Adele's Ladies Wear. Adele married Sid in 1950, and by 1951 became a stay-at-home mom. Above all, Adele was dedicated to her family. She kept everyone grounded and was unconditionally supportive of all of her children and grandchildren. Adele was committed to Sid's academic career and took great pleasure in university life. Adele ensured that all special occasions were marked, regular Friday night dinners were held, and she delighted in family gatherings at the cottage for almost 50 years. Adele was an avid reader and writer, and lifelong student. She was keenly interested in and always up to date on the news of the day. Adele volunteered with many organizations in her community, supported the arts (Manitoba Theatre Centre was a favourite), and without question, was always a proud Winnipegger. Donations may be made in her name to the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba or the Alzheimers Society of Manitoba.

Dear Arthur, Shari, Ryan, Macey and family, we are so saddened of the loss of your beloved mother and grandmother!! Although we never had the pleasure of meeting her in person, from your stories we feel we got to know her a bit!!!! Your devotion to her and your late father was absolutely admirable with your countless trips to Winnipeg from Toronto. We know today will be very difficult and wish you all the strength (and warm clothing) to get through this difficult day and coming months!! Love and Hugs from us all!!
