NORA MARY PARSONS February 6, 1913 - December 15, 2018 Peacefully, on December 15, 2018, seven weeks before her 106th birthday, Nora passed away at her home in Vancouver, BC. Born February 6, 1913 in Romsey, England, Nora grew up in Winnipeg with her parents and three brothers. Her summers were spent camping, swimming and fishing in the Whiteshell. She enjoyed tennis, cross country skiing and the Big Band dances at Grand Beach. Nora graduated from Daniel McIntyre School in 1930, moved to Vancouver and worked for BC Tel until her retirement. She loved gardening and caring for her orchids. She also collected recyclables from the beaches and donated the proceeds to cancer research. Throughout her life, Nora delighted in promoting the game of bridge and the sport of tennis, encouraging all to learn and play the game. She was a lifetime member of the Jericho Tennis Club and an active volunteer supporting the events at Brock House. She was an avid competitor and won many medals in tennis and bridge competitions. She hiked extensively in BC and travelled around the world, meeting people and learning from new experiences including camel riding. In her later years, the detailed notes of her travels and her photo albums were a wonderful source of storytelling and exploring together. Nora was predeceased by her father and mother, Sidney and Kate (Derry) Parsons, her brothers and sisters-in-law, Denis (Laura), Arthur (Iona) and Sydney (Betty). She is survived by many nieces and nephews and their families. Many thanks to Nora's friends and neighbours for their comfort, care and friendship particularly as her health began to fail her. Special thanks to her neighbour Mike, friend Rona, and caregiver Pinky for their compassion and kindness that allowed Nora to continue to live in her home. A service to celebrate Nora's life was held in Vancouver on Saturday, December 22, 2018. A donation in memory of Nora may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 565 West 10th Avenue, Vancouver, BC.
