ANTHONY HICKAWAY
Born: Sep 29, 1927
Date of Passing: Jan 07, 2019
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANTHONY HICKAWAY September 29, 1927 - January 7, 2019 With deep sadness we said good-bye to our dear dad. We will remember him as our fun-loving, supportive, story-telling dad. He always looked for humour and the positive side in every situation. Married to Madeline for 68 years, he proved his enduring love by visiting her everyday at her nursing home for the past two plus years where they would sit holding hands and kissing. He was so very proud of his kids: Sherry (Dale), Kevin (Wendy), Greg (Lynette), Todd (Carol), and grandkids: Alexis, Ross, Mark, Daniel and Claire. Friends and family will remember him as Ynot, and that was also how he approached life; why not? He and Mom travelled the world making friends wherever they went. He enjoyed sports, from his football-star days at St. John's High School, to hockey, soccer, curling, golf, bowling and exercising his jaw at the Wellness. He volunteered his time to a variety of clubs and organizations over his active years. Dad loved his years at the Louise Lake cottage fishing and partying with long-time friends from the EK dance club. He owned Ceramatile Ltd. for 40 years and was a very hard-working entrepreneur over his entire career. He instilled a strong work ethic and set of core values that his family follows to this day. At his request, there will be no final ceremony. We celebrated his life at his 90th birthday where he was honoured to see and hear from his friends and relatives at that time. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. Dad often commented on how much he had to be thankful for. We are thankful to have had him in our lives and will miss him dearly.

One of the the three great amigos from my memory banks. Always a smile and a polite gesture. A loss for the understanding he shared with those around him. A good man and a strong man. A friend had dragged me to a reading once and asked about my family after pondering for a moment the bewildered the young lady up at me and said, your family is a very very strong family ....my oh my.. I just smiled and to myself said yes they really were. God bless, hope your playing a perfect game. - Posted by: Jeffrey Hickaway (nephew) on: May 04, 2021

I can’t express how sad I was to learn of Tony’s passing. He and Maddy hold a very special place in my heart! They were the best neighbors one could ask for! Tony always made me laugh, saying “I have to get to work if I want Maddy to feed me!” We shared many laughs and stories over the years! My sincere condolences to his family. There is a huge empty spot now at his home, the hospital, and in his family and friends hearts. There was just no one like Ynot. - Posted by: Wendy Whall (Neighbor and friend) on: Jan 25, 2019

Tony (Ynot) was a gentle man. Full of good natured ribbing and a solid and unwavering devotion to his wife, Ynot was a bright spot in my everyday. A great day for him was when Maddy had a good day. He made many new friends at River Ridge who miss him very much- I am one of them - My deepest sympathies to his lovely family - Posted by: Leslie Fiorino (Friend; Director of Health &Wellness RR1) on: Jan 19, 2019

We just wanted to express our condolences to Madeline and her family for their loss. It was so nice to see Tony and Maddie sitting outside at the Nursing Home and they would be holding hands, cuddling and enjoying the nice weather. He was a very kind and loving husband and person. He never missed a day to spend with his wife. My daughter had the pleasure to serve them their meals at River Ridge as well. God Bless and take care. - Posted by: The Chymyshyn Family (Friends) on: Jan 15, 2019

Todd, Carol, and family… So sorry to hear of the loss of your dad. Although I never had the privilege of meeting him, it sounds as though you were a chip off the ol' block, Todd...so he must've been one heck of a man. Cherish all the wonderful memories that you and the family had with him over the many years…they will last a lifetime. Take care. - Posted by: Cam Moskal (Friend of Todd & Carol) on: Jan 15, 2019

My family was saddened to hear about Tony. Tony and Maddy were our neighbours on Tweedsdale before they moved. They were always out in the yard, and Tony always had something funny to say. We truly enjoyed them both. My deepest condolences. Terry, Danica and Family. - Posted by: Danica and Terry (Neighbour) on: Jan 14, 2019

Our sympathy to Maddy and the entire family. We have so many good memories of the years your family were our next-door neighbors. Tony's stories always made us laugh! We recall his help in carrying furniture in, and soggy carpets out of our house. Also, we are still enjoying our marble bathroom he installed. Please give your Mom a hug from us. - Posted by: Bob and Millie King (Former neighbors) on: Jan 12, 2019
