NICHOLAS PAUL WOLFE April 29, 1931 - January 5, 2019 In his 88th year, Nicholas passed away on Saturday, January 5, at the Grace Hospital, with family members by his side. Nick was married to his loving wife Jean (nee Fuga) for 55 years until her death in 2008. Nick took pride in the cottage he built at Belair and together with Jean they treasured their time there. Other special memories came from vacations to Bermuda and Phoenix. During the 10 years since Jean's passing, Nick was fortunate to be able to share a special relationship with his friend and companion, Patricia Letwin, whom he loved. To cherish his memory Nick leaves his son, Jim (Doris) of Calgary; his daughter, Lisa Tober of Winnipeg; his grandchildren, Melissa Kostrosky (Colin) of Calgary, Bradley Wolfe (Janet) of Calgary, Alexander Tober and Nick Tober of Winnipeg; and his three great-grandchildren, Logan and Asher Kostrosky, and Ellie Wolfe, all of Calgary. Also mourning Nick's passing are his brother, Mike Wolf (Esther) of Winnipeg; his brother-in-law, Herb Hrynyk of Vancouver; his nieces and nephews, Cathy Dale (Jon) and Terry Wolf of Winnipeg, Jennifer Bradley and Jason Hrynyk of Vancouver; his second cousin, Rosemary Sauer (Frank) in Chicago; and the rest of his extended family. Nick was predeceased by his parents, Maria and Nicholas Wolf; his parents-in-law, Tekla and Jacob Fuga; his sister-in-law, Elsie Hrynyk; and his son-in-law, Peter Tober. Nick was born and raised in Winnipeg's North End. Times were difficult growing up during the Depression and war years. He left school at an early age to work at Drewry's Brewery on Redwood, giving his paycheck to his parents to help the family make ends meet. Nick's working life included Globe Envelope, C.P.R., Canada Post and the Winnipeg Convention Centre. Nick was a competitor. In his youth Nick excelled at lacrosse. He could run like the wind and had moves that left defenders and goaltenders grasping at thin air. On the snooker table Nick was "fast", his skill with a pool cue kept him in pocket money throughout his teens. During his mid-20s, Nick turned his focus to golf. Self-taught, golf became his life-long sporting passion. He initially played at Kildonan, then Bel Acres, and ultimately became a member at Elmhurst for 28 years. An excellent golfer, he maintained a single-digit handicap throughout his 60s, competing in several Manitoba Provincial Senior Golf Tournaments. In his twilight years he again golfed at Kildonan and Bel Acres, often shooting his age during his late 70s and early 80s. The last three years were very difficult for Nick as he spent considerable time in and out of hospitals. The family wishes to thank the nurses, doctors, and social workers for their support of Nick during his hospital stays. We would also like to extend a special thank you to the late Dr. Fernando Gonzalez-Pino for his wonderful support of Nick at St. Boniface Hospital in early 2016. In mid-2016, Nick moved into Assisted Living where he reconnected with old friends and made new friends. The family would like to thank Nick's friends, as well as the staff and homecare workers at River Ridge for their kindness and support during his time there. As the end drew near, Nick knew it was his time and he was ready to go. According to Nick's wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, to be followed by interment at Glen Eden, (204) 338-7111. In memory of Nick, if desired, donations can be made to St. Boniface Hospital Foundation (Cardiac Care), C1026 - 409 Tache Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2H 2A6, 204-237-2067; or to the charity of your choice.

I had the pleasure of knowing Nick for 2 of his final years. He was kind and thoughtful. Even with his medical struggles he never hesitated to say hello and ask others how they were doing. Godspeed, Nick. - Posted by: Nancy Norris (Friend) on: Jan 20, 2019

I feel very fortunate to have known Nick. Through the last three years, we had many long conversations, revisiting shared memories and changes of the North End from his youth and mine; it was wonderful watching him reconnect with others from his past- laughing, reminiscing and enjoying time together. He always had a smile and a werthers for me- we shot straight from the hip with each other - so when I tell you this Nick you know it's straight up- you had friends here and we miss you very much. - Posted by: Leslie Fiorino (Friend; Director Health &a Wellness RR1) on: Jan 19, 2019

Nick was a kind, loveable man whom I enjoyed knowing in his later years. He came to my desk with a smile and a well wish everyday that I worked. He never let an opportunity to compliment me, slip by and was always so thankful for anything I did for him, whether it was big or small. He was also very supportive to my son who he knew from serving him meals in the dining room. He will be missed. I wish his family light and love during this difficult time. - Posted by: Chassity McIntyre (Family Friend ) on: Jan 14, 2019
