Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN CHRISTOPHER BORSBOOM January 14, 1929 - January 18, 2019 John passed away peacefully at this home on Friday, January 18, 2019, at the age of 90, surrounded by his loving family and devoted wife Thea. John was the eldest of 12 children born to William and Kathleen Borsboom in St.Andrews, MB. He lived the majority of his youth in St.Germain, MB and in 1958 he met the love of his life, Thea VanSchie, they were married on September 24, 1960. John and Thea built their permanent home in south St. Vital where they raised their four children. This was also where John and Thea operated their successful business, Borsboom Greenhouses, for over 30 years. During the winter months, John worked with the City of Winnipeg clearing snow. When John and Thea retired they found their second home in Weslaco, Texas where John was in his glory basking in the warm sunshine, playing his guitar everyday and "jamming" with his friends. Back in Winnipeg, John played with the Southglen Fiddlers for 14 years entertaining hundreds of music lovers. John is survived by his wife, Thea (VanSchie), who was his best friend, business partner, travel companion, musical collaborator and most importantly his loving wife of 58 years. Left to cherish Dad's memory are his four children, Diane (Allan) Giesbrecht, David Borsboom (Cathy), Marlene (Kin) Choi and Greg (Jennifer) Borsboom; his 18 grandchildren, Kelsey (Jeremy), Brettly (Anthony), Alanna (Joel), Madison, Brianne (Pascal), Mariah, Savannah, AJ, Jaden, Devan, Tyson, Emmett, Wilsen, Easton, Neve, Tylo, Jett, and AJ; as well as his eight great-grandchildren, Joni, Samuel, Beau, Levi, Greta, Theodore, Mabel and Maximus. Dad will be missed by his brother Bill (Diane); sisters, Anne (Walter), Elizabeth (Mike), Teresa and Barbara; his sister-in-law Shirley; and brother-in-law Max, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his parents, William and Kathleen; his brothers, George and Edward; and his sisters, Ida, Kathy, Mary, and Gertie. Prayers will be on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. and the Funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday January 23,, 2019 at 1:00 p.m; both services will take place at St. Emile Roman Catholic Church, 556 St. Anne's Road with Fr. Gerry Sembrano presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Emile Food Bank. A basket will be set up at the mass to accept donations as well. Special thanks to the Palliative/Home Care St.Vital Community Area for their wonderful care and support.
