RICK ELLISON December 21, 1962 - January 28, 2019 Rick lost his short battle with cancer in the early morning of January 28, 2019 surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on December 21, 1962 to loving parents, Robert Sr. and Maddie in Gander, Newfoundland. He spent much of his childhood moving around as his father was in the air force and his mother was a civilian air force cook. When looking back on his life, one of the things that sticks out is his passion for cooking and cooking shows, and his love of trying new things in the kitchen (which was most welcome by his family). This was kindled in the kitchen where his mother worked. He was most proud of his 15 years as a firefighter, 10 years of which he was Captain in the Penhold Fire Department. He met the love his life, Michele Leek, while living in Winnipeg in 2001 and in the process of winning her heart became a father to their two children, Brandon and Drake. We will most remember his steadfastness, how he was the guiding light to our family and the love he held for all of his large, extended family. He was predeceased by his father Robert Ellison Sr.; his brother Timothy Ellison; and his Uncle Phil Taylor. Rick will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 17 years, Michele; sons, Drake and Brandon; brothers, Robert Jr. (Margaret) and Jeffrey (Tammy); sister-in-law Terry; nieces and nephews, Rocky (Amy), Kevin (Tiffany), Tara (James), Holly (Layne), Shane (Jodi), Brandi and Amanda; and great-nieces and nephews, Owen, Easton, Foster, Cole, Avery, Wyatt, Hayley, Doc, Abby, Ava, Rhylan, Teagan, Korbyn, Haedyn and Olivia. Rick will also be remembered by his Aunt Carol Taylor and cousins, Steven, Chris and their families. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or to the Polar Bear Rescue Team at the Assiniboine Park Zoo. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd., Winnipeg, MB with interment to follow at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens.
