Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDEMETRIOS (JIMMY) STAMATIS It is with deep sympathy we announce the sudden passing of Demetrios Stamatis; beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother. Demetrios passed away on February 12, 2019 at the Grace Hospital, in the loving company of his wife of 45 years, Poppy. Jimmy will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Poppy; children, Marina, Nick and Joanna; and his beloved grandson Lefteri, whom he cherished so deeply; along with numerous extended family members and friends. Jimmy was born on July 20, 1945 in Levidi, Arkadias. He worked as a chef on cruise ships and travelled the world. He eventually ended up in Winnipeg and met his wife Poppy here and they started a family. Demetrios, otherwise known as Jimmy, opened Oakpoint Restaurant which he owned and operated for 42 years until his untimely death. Jimmy loved his family, his friends, his relatives in Greece and spending time with his grandson. He was a funny and incredibly generous human being. He will be greatly missed. Prayers will be held Tuesday, February 19 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 2255 Grant Ave. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 20 at 11:00 a.m. at the same location, with Rev. Fr. Niko Tambakis officiating. Interment will follow at Chapel Lawn. The family encourages all in attendance on Tuesday and Wednesday to wear their Winnipeg Jets gear in honour of Jimmy and his favourite team.
