ESTHER MACKIE It is with heavy hearts we announce that on Thursday, February 14, 2019 Esther passed away. Esther is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Raymond; sons, Doug (Joann) and Brent (Andrea); their five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Esther was born in Bowsman, Manitoba, the youngest of six children of Susan (Richet) and Norman Gilson. She moved to Winnipeg at the age of 17, where she later met and married Ray, raising their family in St. James. Esther lived a social life, curling for many years at Deer Lodge Curling Club, painting with the St. James Art Club, and travelling with Ray. She loved spending time at West Hawk Lake, believing it's never too cold to jump in! In honour of Esther, all are welcome to attend a tea, hosted by the family, on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at Deer Lodge Curling Club, 425 Woodlawn Street. Condolences may be sent to www.wojciksfuneralchapel.com

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • "Momma Mac" will be greatly missed, but fondly remembered by a lot of us who grew up in St. James, and at the Mackie Mansion. She was a second Ma to me since getting to know her back in the early '70's, always willing to receive a big hug and equally giving one back. We know she is now in a better place, free of any more pain, setting up an easel to paint some more clouds from a different vantage point. Our Condolences to the whole Mackie clan, especially "Daddy Mac." R.I.P. MA! Love Hal & Lois Behlke - Posted by: Hal & Lois Behlke (Family Friends) on: Feb 24, 2019

  • Doug, Joann and family. We were so sorry to hear of your loss. You are in our thoughts and wish you lots of good memories to help you through this time of loss. - Posted by: Maureen and Larry Mozel (Friend from Dialysis days) on: Feb 24, 2019

  • Esther will be missed and remembered by many, including us. Esther welcomed us into her home and heart. We shared her sister, Isabelle, as our stepmother. We were welcomed for a coffee or tea with Ray and Esther to catch up on family news and latest activities. Our thoughts and sympathies go our to the entire Mackie family. - Posted by: Bunny & Linda Baxter (Friends) on: Feb 23, 2019

  • When I think of your mother, I think of West Hawk Lake, curling, friendship and that great dog, Brownie. It was a great community of friendship way back when....and endured throughout the years. My condolences and hugs to all of you. Sue Jenkins - Posted by: Susan Jenkins (Friend of family) on: Feb 23, 2019

  • So sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. I fondly remember the times spent in her company. She was so fun loving & always made George & I so welcome. As I am out of town, I will not be able to attend the gathering, but will be thinking of you. Give my love to all. Hugs from Dorothy - Posted by: Dorothy Gauer (Friend of family) on: Feb 22, 2019
