Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARILYN LOIS STANLEY (nee HOBSON) May 29, 1930 - February 24, 2019 It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother and Nana, Marilyn Stanley, on February 24, 2019, at 88 years of age. Mom will be sadly missed by her children, Colleen (Ron), Alex (Patti), Wayne (Chris) and Ken; and her four grandchildren, Erik, Todd, Brianna and Dylan. She will also be missed by her sisters-in-law, Patricia (David) and Edie. Marilyn was predeceased by her parents and her loving husband of 50 years, Jack. Marilyn was born in Winnipeg spending much of her childhood in Melville, Saskatchewan. She returned to Winnipeg where she and Jack met through Breen Motors Bowling Group. Together St. Vital was where they raised their family. Mom worked for many years for the St. Vital School Division in the audiovisual department. Marilyn enjoyed many, many days and summers at the cabin on Lake of the Woods with her family and friends. Mom hammered and sawed, cooked and entertained, and always enjoyed a swim or two. Marilyn was a faithful member of the United church and the Daughters of the Nile. She loved music and singing, and belonged to choirs both at St. Vital United Church and then St. Mary's Road United Church, as well as with the Daughters of the Nile. Her favourite monthly activity was "AFF Girls Club", where she met lifelong friends and enjoyed countless evenings of fun with several road trips thrown in. She also enjoyed travel with the Nile and many trips to Calgary. The family are appreciative of the care and support for mom from both staff and friends at the Seine River Retirement Residence, Home Instead Senior Care and the Riverview Health Centre. As Marilyn requested, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at St. Mary's Road United Church, 613 St. Mary's Road. A private family interment will take place at a later date at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary's Road United Church, the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice. My condolences to Marilyn's family. Marilyn was a parent at St. George School when I was Principal there. She was such a positive and important member of the Home and School Committee and we depended upon her for her wisdom and humour. A very special lady who contributed much to the life and success of the school. She will be very much missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. - Posted by: Alex Boyes (Friend) on: Mar 04, 2019

We grew up on Kitson Street in Norwood, two doors down from the Hobsons. My dad was an engineer on the CNR when Mr. Hobson was a conductor. Marilyn used to babysit us and I still have a photo of her sitting with all of us little girls on our street. When Marilyn and Jack were dating he took us for a ride in his car and we got to sit in the rumble seat! I still remember what fun it was. Jack was a good friend of my dads and for many years he worked on his Chrysler. Dad never trusted anyone else to do that! My mom had a bridal shower for Marilyn and she and Dad were at their wedding. I remember Marilyn with fondness from my childhood. Sincere sympathy to the family. Judi Parry (nee Clendening) - Posted by: Judi Parry (Former neighbour) on: Mar 02, 2019
