ELEONORA PUSZTAY (nee VANISS) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a special mother, grandmother and sister, Eleonora Pusztay, on Friday, March 1, 2019. She was surrounded by her family as she peacefully slipped away. Eleonora, Nora, Babszi or Mama had been slowly declining and by the grace of God her final decline was swift and she is now at peace. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph, of 59 years, and parents, Ferenc and Eleonora. Left to cherish her memory are children, Eva Dueck (Hartley), Rita Duncan (Bryon), Peter Pusztay (Donna), Monica Choma (Glen) and Beatrice Kuz (Bill), grandchildren, Jennifer, Sarah and Gregory, brother Ferenc Vaniss (Henrietta), sister Maria Pammer (Erno), and several nieces and nephews. Eleonora was born and raised in Hungary. She married her husband Joseph in 1953. In a bold move, in search of a better life and greater opportunities, she left Hungary in 1956 with her husband, daughter Eva and sister Maria and moved to Canada. They settled in Winnipeg, had four more children and made a wonderful life for their family. She had a good career as a secretary at a physician's office for over 20 years. Nora's most fulfilling "job" was being a loving mother, always trying to give the best to her children and grandchildren. She loved reading, music and old movies (the classics). She knit, crocheted and did needlepoint, and was an avid crafter. She tried all kinds of crafts and spent countless hours doing crafts with all the children. She always had a special love for babies and toddlers and was always happy to babysit. She was a very good cook and baker, and instilled the love of cooking and baking in her family. Many thanks to the staff at the Kildonan Personal Care Centre who have been so patient, caring and kind to Nora. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 8 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Hungarian Roman Catholic Church, 365 Burnell St., with interment and reception to follow at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

  • I remember sitting beside Mama just after Papa passed. She had a note she kept in her wallet from him which reminded her that “It is enough joy for me to know that you are there” whenever they sat together in silence. They’re love was so pure! • Mama Pustzay, rest in love. My family sat in the pew in front of her and Papa Pustzay at St. Anthony's and were always so kind to my sister and I. I missed their presence behind us, especially after Papa Pustzay passed away. I live in Toronto now but still go to church when I am home. I will continue to think of them when I see their pew.
