Date of Passing: Feb 22, 2019
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBARBARA HELEN SPROULE (HUNTER) September 5, 1933 - February 22, 2019 Peacefully, at her residence, Barbara passed away, surrounded by her family. Mom was born in Vancouver and is survived by sons, Michael (Judy) and Gerry (Dianne), sister Blanche, brother Bill, and various grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Barbara was predeceased by her husband Allen, father Hugh, mother Sara, sisters, Lois, Deirdre, Joan, Kathy, and brothers, Art and Pat. Mom and Dad met at school (General Wolfe, Daniel McIntyre) and were married on July 10, 1951. They bought a small house on Albany Street and lived in St. James until 1990. During that time Mom raised her children and later worked at various occupations, eventually retiring from the Province of Manitoba Motor Vehicle Branch. In 1984 Mom and Dad bought a cottage on the golf course at Sandy Hook. Over the next six years, with help of family and friends, they fashioned their retirement home, complete with a two storey garage and 24' gazebo for entertaining. After their retirement in 1990 they travelled in the winter, mostly south to the US (South Carolina, Arizona), Cuba, Venezuela, Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand. Mom was famous for her baking and love of music. We all remember her chocolate chip cookies, brownies and cheesecake. She was a member of The West Shore Singers and enjoyed being active in the Winnipeg Beach United Church choir. Family was her life. Entertaining and celebrating holidays and special occasions were tradition. Fond memories of their 50th wedding anniversary celebration, pig roasts and other great times at Sandy Hook will live on. Many thanks to the staff at River East Personal Care Home, Courage Bay for their professionalism and care during a difficult time for Mom and our family. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the charity of your choice in Barb's memory is encouraged. Cremation has taken place. Interment will be at a later time.

Dear Mike, Gerry and family. We are so sad to hear about your Mom’s passing. We have many fond memories of your Mom and Dad and certainly remember their 50th. Barb was an amazing friend and Neighbour. She was a quiet, soft spoken yet powerful woman. She had an uncanny ability to offer strength and encouragement when it was most needed. She will be missed. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers, Emiel and Florine Dahms. Gimli, MB. - Posted by: Emiel and Florine Dahms (Friends and next door neighbours) on: Mar 10, 2019
