ARLYN WINONA COOKE (nee STAPLES) May 17, 1929 - March 16, 2019 With saddened hearts the family announces the passing of Arlyn, at the age of 89. She is lovingly remembered by her husband Vernon, of 68 years, her three daughters, Karen Rasmussen-Oke (Jim), Sheryl Lengyel (Murray) and Colleen Kuilman (Martin), her 10 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren with the 14th on the way. She is also remembered by her sisters, Ronaele Grieg, Peggy Leskewich (Les) and Beth Dunbar. Arlyn was predeceased by her parents, Harold and Ora Staples, and brothers, Don and Derwyn Staples. Arlyn was born on May 17, 1929 and raised on the Staples' family farm near Benito, MB. On June 5, 1950 Arlyn married Vernon G. Cooke, eventually settling in Winnipeg where they lived most of their married life, raising their three daughters. Arlyn will be remembered for her kind and gentle spirit, her grace, selflessness and unconditional love for her family and friends. She loved to be surrounded by her family, hosting many meals and making each and every one of them extra special. Baking, gardening and playing the piano were just a few of her many talents and pleasures. A service of remembrance will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2019 at John Black Memorial United Church, 898 Henderson Highway, with reception and light lunch to follow. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Jane Azeez, who called Arlyn mom, to the staff on 3E at Concordia Hospital and the staff at their residence, River Ridge 1, for their kindness and care. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Arlyn's memory can be made to a charity of one's choice. For online condolences please visit www.cropo.com

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Colleen, Marty and family ..... So sad to hear about your mom. We know you loved to visit 'grandma' and gather there for family occasions. Sounds like, besides all of the wonderful meals shared, cribbage was always on the menu! What beautiful memories you must have. ..... We think of you often, ...sending our condolences and prayers, Monique, Dave and family - Posted by: the Coffell family (friends) on: Mar 21, 2019

  • Extending my sympathy to Colleen and all the family. I clearly remember the days I met Mrs. Cooke, in my childhood. She indeed was a wonderful person, and how hard it must be for all of you. May God bless you with His peace, that your mom is in His care, and that she continues to be fully loved. Sending love and prayers for today, and for strength in the days to come. - Lori - Posted by: Lori (Ridler) Crouch (Childhood friend of Colleen) on: Mar 19, 2019
