MARIO MORELLATO November 24, 1944 - March 12, 2019 It is with great sadness that the family of Mario Morellato announces his passing on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at the age of 74, after a five year battle with cancer. Mario will be lovingly remembered by his wife of almost 50 years, Barbara, and his children, Cathy (Michael) and Michelle (Dave). Mario will be fondly remembered by his three grandchildren - Ashlyn, Brayden and Carson - as well as his siblings, Marisa, Lina, Beppino and their families. Mario was predeceased by his parents, and his brother Fulvio. Mario was born in Treviso, Italy on November 24, 1944. He began working at the age of 13, leading to a career as a bricklayer by trade. At the age of 17 he left Italy and went to Switzerland and then onto France before moving to Winnipeg to join his sister, Marisa, to live the Canadian dream. In December of 1966 he was set up on a blind date which led to him meeting the love of his life, Barbara. They were married in May of 1969. They settled in North Kildonan where they bought their first home. It was in this home where they built their life together - raising two daughters and hosting all the family events and gatherings. He remained in this home until his passing. Mario was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed shooting trap, skeet and sporting clays. He loved to work with his hands and as recent as the summer of 2018 could be seen 10 feet in the air working on the roof of a giant ice fishing shack. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba.
