SIMONE WOOD Our Mom passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 following a cancer diagnosis on January 6. She was predeceased by Dad in 2014. She is survived by her daughters, Paula and her children, Carly, Sydney and Brooklyn; Shelley (Bruce) and their children, Cole and Hannah; and Tannis (Rick) and their children, Reid and Jordan. She is also survived by her sisters, Elizabeth (Lucien) Fillion, Agnes (Walter) Tomchuk and Cecile (Roy) Schneider and her brothers, Joseph (Cecile) Desrosiers and Gerry (Marilee) Desrosiers, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Before her diagnosis, Mom was always on the go. She always had something delicious baking in the oven or cooking on the stove and was very quick to share a meal and a treat with those in her life. She was also an active volunteer for over 20 years at both Foyer Valade (Action Marguerite) and Light of the Prairie, bringing a great deal of joy to those she met along the way. Sports were also a big part of her life. Over the years, she played baseball, golfed when she could with friends and bowled regularly, so much so that all outings were planned around her weekly league games during the year. Mom was also blessed with a great group of friends, whether they were part of her knitting group, friends who came by for one of her many meals and those with whom she shared her many jokes, played a mean game of barouche or chatted about life. Above all, her daughters and their families were her pride and joy. She loved spending time with them, and in particular, spoiling her grandchildren. She never missed their hockey, soccer or baseball games, piano recitals, choir or band concerts, birthdays or important events, treasuring every minute she spent with them or talking to them on the phone. Over the past 11 weeks, true to form, Mom faced her final journey with humour, courage, strength and dignity. We will miss her jokes, her meals, her cookies, her grace and her love. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Niakwa Country Club (620 Niakwa Road, Winnipeg, MB R2J 2X3). In lieu of flowers, any donations can be made to Actionmargeurite Valade (450 River Road, Winnipeg, MB R2M 5M4) or to a charity of your choice.
