RALPH EDWARDS
1944 - 2019

On Tuesday, April 9, 2019, Ralph Edwards, loving father of two daughters and one stepdaughter, passed away at the age of 75.
Ralph joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1961 and travelled the world as Loadmaster on the C-130 Hercules and the Boeing 707. During his time in the RCAF he had postings to Borden, Cold Lake, Trenton, Winnipeg, Lahr and France until his retirement in 1995. He participated in a UN peacekeeping mission in Damascus, Syria in the early 1990s, but was particularly proud of his role in the transportation of 159 Vietnamese refugees to Canada in 1978.
Ralph was born on April 8, 1944 in Georgefield, NS to Arthur and Daisy (Bates) Edwards. He leaves to mourn his partner Ruth; sisters, Emma and Deanna; brother George; daughters, Natalie (Stephen) and Deborah; stepdaughter Roxanne (Glen); grandchildren, Lynton, Jamel, Joel, Even, Jordan, Josh, Lance; and five great-grandchildren. Ralph was predeceased by his brother (William); mother (Daisy); and father (Arthur).
Ralph loved to tinker; always fixing stuff. When he was out of his own things to tinker with, he helped others tinker. He enjoyed time spent with family and always looked out for others. He often asked after people he met, even if only once. Ralph always had a lively story about his travels during his time in the Air Force. The best slides from all of his travels came with stories about the things that impacted him the most on each trip.
A memorial will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ralph's name to The Royal Canadian Legion or Riverview Health Centre Foundation.

Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • Sorry to hear now, that Ralph has passed on, he was a great guy. I was at 437 Sqn for the Vietnamese refugee airlift also, and I recall I went to Hong Kong 4 times during one month. I also remember a trip to Lahr with Ralph and it was his birthday. I recall a number of us celebrating his birthday for 3 days. - Posted by: Luke Pascall (colleague) on: Apr 25, 2023

  • Unfortunately I never got to meet Ralph in person, but felt I got to know him through shared emails. He generously shared much of his family history, and was a great help to me. Rest in peace, Ralph, Thank you for your input. So sorry that your time was cut short. - Posted by: Jacky Cooper (Mutual interest in family history) on: Jul 30, 2019

  • RALPH WAS A GREAT MAN AND A GREAT PERSON TO TALK TO ABOUT ANYTHING!! VERY GENUINE!! HE WILL BE MISSED!! - Posted by: JEFF SWAILE (FREIND) on: Apr 15, 2019

  • I’ll never forget the best math teacher I ever had. Probably the only one I’d ever listened to. I’ll always cherish the memory of going fishing with him back in Petawawa, and all the times we had together. I’m so appreciative of the fact we were able to have the time together to tell each other everything the other one needed to hear shortly before his passing. As I had said to him when I was leaving that there are no “goodbyes”, simply only “see you laters”. All the love to a wonderful grandfather. We will meet again someday. - Posted by: Joel Gilchrist (Grandson) on: Apr 14, 2019

  • I met Ralph through Natalie, my sister-in-law. He was always happy to see us and was sincerely interested in what was happening in ours lives. I will miss bumping into him every now and then at the mall when he'd be going for coffee at Tim Hortons, my guess he was there so much because a certain lady caught his eye, Ruth. I hope to see him in heaven some day. I love you Ralph. XOXO to all the family - Posted by: Lena (Friend) on: Apr 14, 2019

  • Very sorry to hear of your passing. Many years have come and gone without us ever talking but I am still saddened to hear that you are no longer here...the grandchildren will attest to that I’m sure. To the family, I hope that that you can rest easy now that Ralph has no more pain. There’s nothing to say to lessen this loss but I’m sure Ralph will show up in the way you do things, your thoughts, and perhaps the way you say stuff. Days will be brighter with the memories you have , this I’m sure. - Posted by: Bob Gilchrist (Past father-in-law) on: Apr 13, 2019
