Herb was a keen 30 year member of the
Manitoba Naturalists Society and the
Manitoba Museum. His life was identifying and banding birds and anything to do with nature. Herb spent his early years with best friends, Gordon Smith, Harold Hosford and Warren Johnston, going on many outings to Warren's cottage. Then Herb and Bob Nero spent many years and drove many miles banding great grey owls.
Very nice comments were received from Randy Mooi of the Manitoba Museum,
Rudolph Koes, an avid naturalist, and Dr. James Duncan, Director of Wildlife and
Fisheries Branch. Randy expressed
appreciation for Herb's many contributions to Manitoba's natural history in general and
ornithology in particular. Rudi mentioned a treat going out on a Great Grey Owl outing with Herb and Bob Nero. Jim mentioned
Herb's wit and dry sense of humour hiding a mammal skull for him to find in a bush on an outing. Jim and his wife were owlers too.
We know Herb is being well looked after by God, the one who created the nature Herb so enjoyed.
Herb is sadly missed by family, friends and loving wife Beverley.
