VERNON WAYNE PENNER
May 29, 1949 - May 15, 2019
Vern was born in Morris and grew up on the farm with his five siblings. He attended country schools and graduated from Morris School in 1967. He attended university for one year and began his teaching career. Vern loved teaching - Kane 1968 to 1970; Lowe Farm 1970 to 1977; New Hope 1977 to 1987 and Elmwood (Altona) 1987 to 2005. He touched lives for the future.
Music was a huge love in Vern's life. He shared that love with his children. Playing guitar in school music programs was one of his favourite things to do. He sang in and directed choirs but the privilege of being part of Altona EMMC Quartet for many years, culminated in a CD which he listened to during his last days.
A diagnosis of Parkinson's caused him to retire. In retirement he wrote and published two children's books and a poetry book. He also volunteered with Wycliffe Bible Translators.
Left to celebrate his life are his loving wife Anne, son Michael (Sam), and daughter Rachel (Andrew).
Extended family includes brothers, Lloyd (Darlene), Glen (Kim) and Tim (Laurel); sister Eileen (Michael); nieces, Melissa (Darren) Stephanie (Stephan) Amanda Meghan and Aleah; nephews, Nicholas and Shawn (Jacquie); great-nieces and nephews, Sarah, Joshua, Anthony, Nathan, Daniel, Zachary, Wyatt and Jaylyn.
Anne's mom - Katharina, brother Alfred and Cathy, nephews, Brendan and Jake.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. at Morrow Gospel Church with interment to follow at Glen Lawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wycliffe Bible Translators Canada.
