WILLIAM (BILL) GRANT TIPPER

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Bill Tipper on June 4, 2019, at his home in Fernie, BC.
Bill was loved and cherished by many friends and family who will miss him dearly: his mother Doris, his children, Angela Tipper (Jonathan) and Kelsey Tipper (Tyler), sisters, Brenda Tipper (Michael) and Diane Kepler (Les), along with many nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his father, Robert (Bob) Tipper. He also leaves to mourn friends and family in Fernie, BC including Christine, Caroline and Eric.
Bill was born June 7, 1954 in Edmonton, AB. He and his family eventually settled in Winnipeg, MB where he graduated from Windsor Park Collegiate in 1972. High school was where he first developed a love for photography and basketball - both of which he continued into his later years. He graduated from the University of Manitoba with a degree in Civil Engineering and went on to a lifelong career with Transport Canada / Winnipeg Airports Authority. Bill met his first wife, Donna McTavish (nee Mandryk) in high school. They married and had Angela and Kelsey before they designed and built their home in La Salle, MB. After retiring, Bill moved to Fernie, BC where he designed and built his second home in the mountains. It was there that he really developed his photography skills, even starting his own small business (Peak Images) printing photos.
Bill will be missed dearly by all those who were lucky enough to know him.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Fernie Friends for Friends.

"I do not fear death. I had been dead for billions and billions of years before I was born, and had not suffered the slightest inconvenience from it." - Mark Twain

Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • I was saddened to hear that Bill passed away. I have fond memories of him taking photos in class of all of our classmates. Including some of me. He gave me a little album of photos I still hold dear. It was interesting to read that he took up photography again after he retired because it appeared to be a passion at a very young age. One he was good at even then. I’m so sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Sandy Lafontaine (Former classmate) on: Jul 16, 2019

  • So sorry to hear of Bill's passing. Bill and I along with another classmate (elementary, junior and high schools) shared the same birthdays and always connected with this shared fact. Bill had the most wonderful smile that made his eyes sparkle. He was bright, talented, and a very kind and good person. My sincere condolences to his family and friends. May you find comfort in your happy memories of Bill. - Posted by: Katherine Campbell (Class Mate) on: Jun 08, 2019

  • On behalf of the many classmates Bill shared as friends, at WPC, we would like to send our sympathies along. Bill stood above us all, and was nice to read that his passions followed him to his forever home. - Posted by: Laurie Gydé (WPC classmate) on: Jun 08, 2019

  • Bill was a great buddy in school back in Windsor Park. My condolences to his mother and family. - Posted by: Doug Mcclelland (High school friend) on: Jun 07, 2019

  • Tilley Bipper (our nickname for him) was such a nice person. He always had a smile and took the most amazing photographs. Even back then his photography was very unique. I still have pictures of the basketball team Bill took. Even though we had not seen each other for some time my brother and I still talk about Bill and reminisce about fun times we spent together. He will be missed. My condolences to the family. - Posted by: Janice Ballen (Windsor Park Collegiate high school friend. ) on: Jun 06, 2019
