ROBERT FRANCIS HASTIE

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather and friend, Robert (Bob) Hastie who, on June 29, 2019, at the age of 83 lost his short battle with cancer.
Bob will be sadly missed by his wife Beverley; son Michael (Eleanor), grandsons, Robert and Andrew; son Matthew (Erica), grandson Chris; son Eric; stepson Scott (Maria), granddaughters, Mikalah, Sophia, Tayah and Mia.
Bob was a First Class Steam Engineer and worked 30 years at Seagram's Distillery in Gimli, retiring at age 60.
He lived his life to the fullest, and his first passion was sailing. He was a long-time member of both Gimli Yacht Club and Silver Harbour Sailing Club.
He loved to work with his hands and there was nothing he could not build or fix, and would be the first to help someone, be it on the lake or land.
Bob had a terrific memory and loved to visit and exchange stories, many of which were from his sailing days on Lake Winnipeg.
Bob will be missed by so many and we are grateful for the love and friendship he gave us.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Wednesday, July 10 at 7:00 p.m. at E.J. Coutu Funeral Home, 680 Archibald St., Winnipeg.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to CancerCare Manitoba or a charity of your choice.

Love and Hugs to those close to Bob, especially Bev; we will never forget him. Mark & Bozena - Posted by: Mark and Bozena Szul (Sailing friends) on: Jul 08, 2019

  • Bob would say, let’s go sailing Jim it’s very windy, and the rest are coming in.Lets go. - Posted by: James Fudge (Sailor friend from Newfoundland) on: Jul 07, 2019

  • My favourite memory of Bob was spending the day with him trying to get an emergency passport for him to join Bev in Sedona, Arizona. We made a couple of trips to the passport office and a trip to the airport and while I was driving around the city Bob entertained me with all sorts of stories. There are few people as genuinely friendly and interested in people as Bob was and it only took a few minutes in his company to figure that out. He made my dear friend Bev very happy and he will be missed by many. - Posted by: Brenda DeSerranno (Friend) on: Jul 06, 2019

  • I knew Bob as a wonderful storyteller who was also a thoughtful listener. It was always a delight to share a conversation with Bob who looked for connections with others to make more real our shared human history. He'll be missed and fondly remembered. - Posted by: Marlene Schellenberg (Friend) on: Jul 06, 2019
