April 5, 1943 - August 24, 2019
It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our beloved Craig on August 24, 2019 after a short battle with cancer. He leaves his wife Dianne (McCoy) and their children, Marshall Posner (Cassandra), Rachel Posner, Michael McCoy (Melanie) in Winnipeg, Andrew McCoy (Tammy) in Lac du Bonnet and the grandchildren - Liam, Mila, Max and Brody; his brother Dr. Barry Posner (Bebe) in Montreal and their children, Ari (Jill), Rebecca (Matthew) and Daniel (Alona) and numerous nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his first wife Freda in 2008 and his parents, Dr. Saul Posner and Rebecca Markovitz.
Craig grew up in North Winnipeg and attended Andrew Mynarski High School. He spent many summers growing up, travelling to Iowa City with his mother to visit his grandparents and when his mother died when he was 13, he continued travelling there on his own keeping the family connection.
He graduated from the University of Manitoba with a BA and MA in Social Work. He taught school in Ericksdale, MB for one year and then moved to Montreal to work in mental health. He met Freda during this time and they married, eventually moving back to Winnipeg where they settled down and started their family. It was then that Craig began working as a social work therapist in Psychiatric Health at the Health Sciences Centre (HSC). He was proud of his work and celebrated 46 years working at HSC in February 2019.
His passion for helping others, especially families and children, expanded through his part-time work with C.A.F.A.C., where he supported children and families with the international adoption program. When that role ended, he took on part-time work at Jewish Child and Family Services and later with Blue Cross.
Craig was a history buff and his keen interest in politics kept him debating his views with his family and friends on a regular basis. He loved travelling and he made regular trips to Montreal, New York and Toronto to take in the arts and baseball. The last decade Craig shared with Dianne and their common interests kept them busy. He even travelled to Muscat, Oman to visit her when she was working there and she even got to like baseball and basketball.
A big thank you to the Palliative Care Team - doctors and nurses for their love and support over the past few months and the home care team for their assistance.
Interment will take place at Chapel Lawn on Tuesday, August 27.
Donations in Craig's honour can be made to Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba.
