RICHARD CHARLES PUGH
Born December 17, 1942, the tapestry of his story is richly embroidered with colourful and exotic threads which recount the marvellous odyssey of his life. He will be sorely missed by myriad theatre and film groups, colleagues in education, former students, hiking partners, friends, travel companions, and neighbours.
He will be forever vividly remembered by his children, Mark Pugh (Shannon), Abigail Fontaine (Phillip), Candida Whitbeck (Greg) and Monica Pugh. His grandchildren, Jasmine Gaines (Dylan), Jackson Pugh, Mitchell Pugh, Lily Etheridge, Julianna Etheridge, Jamie Etheridge, Samuel Fontaine, Olivier Fontaine, Angelique Fontaine, Agathe Fontaine and Emily Desjarlais, as well as his former wife Virginia Breton-Jones will keep his memory alive through dramatic retelling of his numerous zany and hilarious escapades, in which Dick starred as both hero and hapless victim of circumstance. Predeceased by grandson Thomas Pugh.
A tribute to Dick, DickExit is planned for September 8 at 10:00 a.m. at the Vogue Theatre, 918 Granville Street, Vancouver, BC. Livestream of the event will be available for those unable to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations to local arts groups of your choice are gratefully encouraged.

Mr. Pugh cast me in my first musical role when I was in seventh grade at River Heights. I was 'Ado Annie' in Oklahoma! He was a passionate & encouraging director, whose guidance helped to nurture my love of the stage. Since then I'm currently engaged in my fifth professional musical theatre production. You are a wonderful soul, Mr. Pugh.. may you rest in peace. - Posted by: Maiko Munroe (former student ) on: Sep 01, 2019

I came to “know” Dick through the stories of him told by Monica. I loved hearing about his adventures with the Vancouver Film School, and watching the productions he participated in. I also loved hearing about his adventures with his good friend and traveling companion, Ginny. His spirit of fun, and his good humour live on in his children. My condolences to his lovely family. - Posted by: Sharran Mullins (Friend of Monica) on: Sep 01, 2019

Monsieur Pugh was one of my all time favourite teachers in middle school (which was not a great time in my life). He knew that I needed a bit of guidance and mentorship and excused my self destructive indulgent behaviour. He also cast me in my first play and generally made me feel like maybe I could be someone. Thank you Monsieur Pugh. Your former student, “Mimi” (now Dr. Maryse Mazerolle). - Posted by: Maryse (Mimi) Mazerolle (Former student ) on: Aug 31, 2019

Dick Pugh cast me as the Attendant in his production of Dracula. He was a warm and funny man, as well as a detailed and conscientious director. I had a great time doing the show, and a lot of that was due to him. I have worked with many directors before and since, but he stood out as one of the best, and the most congenial, witty, and entertaining, that I have had the privilege to act for. - Posted by: Deejay Dayton (he was my director) on: Aug 31, 2019
