KATHLEEN (KATHY) LYNN MATHAE
(nee FIERHELLER) R.N., B.N.
November 30, 1966 - September 1, 2019

It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our dear Kathy, at the age of 52 years, at St. Boniface Palliative Care.
Kathy will be missed by her husband of 31 years - the love of her life - Derrick; her three precious children, Bretton (Rebecca), Courtney (Brad) and Amanda (Ty); her brother Bruce (Lori) Fierheller, niece Jasmine and nephew Richard Fierheller; brother-in-law Brian (Jason); parents, Darrell and Margaret Fierheller; in-laws, Emil and Terry Mathae; her cousins, extended family, and many, many friends.
Kathy always lived in Transcona and graduated from Murdoch MacKay in 1984. She dedicated her entire career to nursing where she achieved her L.P.N., R.N. and B.N. Kathy loved her nursing career and made many friends in her workplaces. Kathy was employed as Educator - Family Medicine at Concordia Hospital and cherished her colleagues.
Kathy lived life to the fullest and even though this last year brought many challenges, she was able to attend Amanda's graduation from the University of Manitoba and the weddings of Brett and Rebecca, and Courtney and Brad. Kathy loved travelling and camping and visited many places with friends and family. Her fondest time was enjoying the summers at the cottage at Spruce Bay surrounded by great friends and memories.
Anyone who has met Kathy will always remember her bright smile and her infectious laughter.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Transcona Memorial United Church, 209 Yale Ave. West, on September 7 at 10:00 a.m., Rev. Jeff Cook and Rev. Carol Fletcher officiating. Reception to follow.
The family would like to thank all of the doctors and nurses at CancerCare and St. Boniface Palliative Care for all of the care and compassion; to all of the home care workers; Dr. Caners, Dr. Kaufman, and all of Kathy's co-workers at Concordia Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, donations to be made to Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada, www.braintumour.ca

  • I remember a day of happiness when a beautiful blond haired flower girl named Kathy, walked down the aisle at the Holy Rosary church with my son Tom, the ring bearer. Together they participated in the celebration of Tony and Pat Maruca's wedding day. Kathy was a vision of an angel that day and now, she surely is that angel looking down on us. She is now free of pain and rejoicing in the kingdom of heaven. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. • Have very happy memories of Kathy while our boys were growing up together. We spent many weekends camping together and having good times. We are deeply sorry to all of Kathy's family , out hearts go out to all of you. The world has lost a very caring and wonderful Mother, Wife, daughter , sister, & friend . " We never lose the people we love , they become immortal through us. They continue to live in our hearts and minds. They participate in our every act, idea & decision. No one will ever replace them, & inspite of the pain , we are richer for all the years invested in them. Because of them , we have so much more to bring to our present relationships, and all those to come " - Posted by: Sandra Antosko (Knew Kathy & Derrick from our boys Kyle & Brett growing up together) on: Sep 04, 2019
