ROSE MARGARET TAYLOR
February 26, 1925 - August 28, 2019
Rose is survived by her son Richard Taylor; daughter Glenice Naiman (Adam) along with grandchildren, Taylor, Trevor and Darra; daughter Patricia Bowers along with grandchildren, Brenden, Mark (Brianna), Megan (Rene), great-grandchildren, Hazel and Violet; daughter Brenda Ritsema (Ed) along with grandchildren, Robert, Garret and Bryan; and numerous nieces and nephews from both the Gottselig and Taylor clans. She will be forever remembered by her surviving siblings, Gabe, Bert, John and Kathie, and many dear friends.
Rose was born smack-dab in the middle of the Gabriel Elizabeth Gottselig Family of 15 children. They called her "Rosa Margaretha" born on "yea Old homestead" Sec. 18, Tp. 22, Rge. 25, W. 2 on February 26, 1925. She received grade 10 at Vancise School then on to Balfour Tech in Regina graduating from a commercial course in 1944. Her love of sport began with her brothers on the homestead and playing as Catcher for a "League of Their Own" baseball team during the war years.
She then met and married Robert Taylor, love of her life in 1951. They lived in Dryden, Thunder Bay and finally Winnipeg where they raised a family. After years of home making, she returned to high school followed by a nursing diploma, a career at St. Boniface Hospital and Park Manor Nursing Home and retiring in 1987. Rose and Bob then gypsied around a bit living in Transcona, the cottage at Black Sturgeon Lake and British Columbia. Finally, to settle in for an active retirement at St. Michael's Villa in Transcona. Curling and golfing were Rose's passion. She was proud to have been part of the rink to win the Manitoba Ladies Curling Championship and participate as runners up in the nationals 1969 and 1987.
Rose was determinedly independent in all aspects of her long life. She insisted on living alone and was still reading the newspaper in its entirety, voicing her political opinion and followed every televised sporting event. She created her own end of life story and slipped away to be with God, as she planned.
Of all the things she ever did, the one she valued most was that of devoted wife and mother to four children, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She taught us unconditional love and for that we are forever grateful.
A private family service has been held.
In lieu of flowers donation to Jocelyn House Foundation or Mom's favorite charity Siloam Mission would be appreciated.
