NADIA KATHRINE
(DYBAYLO) SWANLUND
1961 - 2019

It's with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Baba and friend on September 29, 2019, at the age of 57, at St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit, after a battle with cancer.
Nadia will be greatly missed by her two daughters, Samantha Swanlund (Daniel Kuchma) and Sarah Swanlund (Justin Beaulieu), grandson Benjamin Beaulieu; sisters, Vera Dybaylo and Luba Dybaylo (Harvey Rudyk).
Nadia was predeceased by parents, Yaroslaw Dybaylo and Sophie Dybaylo, and sister Marie Dybaylo.
Nadia was born on December 5, 1961. From a very young age she had a sparkling personality that could make even a dull moment an adventurous one. She grew up always having a loving, nurturing and caring heart. Due to her caring nature, she naturally assumed the role of looking out for her sisters which landed her the job as the matriarch of the family and the one who was responsible in keeping the family together in their adulthood. Family was her number one priority and she always dreamt of having one of her own. When she found out she was pregnant with her first daughter Samantha, Nadia would often talk about how this was her greatest joy and achievement in her life. Nadia loved and adored her daughters, spending lots of time volunteering at their schools and attending all of their activities. Nadia was their number one fan and supported her daughters in all of their dreams. She easily transitioned into the role as a Baba when Benjamin, her first grandson, was born. Spoiling him with gifts, treats, hugs, kisses and plenty of "I love you". Nadia was ecstatic when she predicted and found out her other daughter Samantha was pregnant and was beaming with excitement that both of her girls were going to be mothers. As a mature student Nadia decided to take her caring and loving heart into her career by going back to school to become a nurse. Nadia graduated with her Bachelor of Nursing degree in 2007 earning the highest grade point average in her class and was awarded a scholarship. Nadia started working at Riverview Health Centre and enjoyed her work greatly. She was a remarkable nurse even with the most difficult patients and cherished her friendships with fellow colleagues. She had a very calming nature and was extremely patient making nursing the perfect fit for her. Nadia had remarkable friendships and cherished spending lots of time surrounded by them in travel, camping, bonfires, concerts, game nights and many more activities. Her friendships she often described as her "family" as she attended and invited many of them to Christmas dinners and family vacations. Nadia was filled with life, always the center of fun and laughter filled times. Her loving heart and generous spirit will live on in all of those who knew her.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Nadia's life will be held on Friday, October 11, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd.
A special thank you goes out to Nadia's close circle of friends, family and the tremendous staff at St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit. She was so grateful for the time, love and support all of these wonderful people continuously showed her during this difficult journey.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Nadia to the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit.

Condolences & Memories (10 entries)

  • Thinking of you so much since our transition from your health issue from May 11, 2019 to the HSC hospital care to your passing on September 29, 2019. All the firsts are the most difficult and today is extra special as it would have been your birthday on December 5. We met in September of 1980 in Sociology at the University of Manitoba. We were friends right off the bat and we were friends from those days forward. Our paths went apart and you brought 2 lovely daughters into your life with your first marriage, being Samantha and Sarah. You spoiled them but they turned out fine and have become quality individuals just like their mother and I love them very much. We reacquainted in February 2004 and began dating March 13, 2004. We celebrated 15 years together March 13, 2019 at Now Jade near Puerto Morelos (Mayan Riviera), Mexico. We discussed living together after you asked me to move in with you for December 1, 2005. We have made a lot of memories together from house renovations, yard enhancements, pool installations, family gatherings for special days (birthdays & holidays) as they always occurred at our place. The most memorable part of us ... is just us. We had lots of fun together and loved each other. We enjoyed our many travels together and you convinced me to enjoy Neil Diamond. We had a big week in Calgary by seeing Neil Diamond live and INXS live at Calgary Stampede. All the firsts without you will be the most difficult and I loved and love you very much. God Bless you Nadia Dybaylo and I will miss you everyday and your birthday will always be special. - Posted by: DANIEL LESTER (partner) on: Dec 05, 2019
