MARLA JEAN BRICKMAN
(nee THOMPSON)
Marla was born in Saskatoon, SK to Clifford and Jessie Thompson.
Marla is survived by her loving husband Garry of 62 years; sons, Douglas (Bunny) in Winnipeg and Brent (Laura) of Brookfield, WI; grandchildren, Evan and Audrey; brother Ken (Peggy) of Kelowna and nephews, Grant, David and Scott.
She married Garry on October 25, 1957. Family came first to her and she loved to hear of their activities and important events in their lives. She was an avid curler and quilter. In high school, Marla was active in CGIT and spent time at the group camp at Clear Lake. She was instrumental in starting a Young People's group in the Dauphin United Church. Marla graduated from Manitoba Teachers' College in Winnipeg in 1960 and taught in St. James School Division. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star becoming Worthy Matron of the St. James Chapter in 1971 and later served as Grand Warder. Marla was burdened by multiple sclerosis which she dealt with bravely and, while a lady of few words, she was a wonderful listener with a warm heart and good sense on humour. She will be greatly missed.
Marla's family extends grateful thanks to the staff and volunteers of Golden West Centennial Lodge for their kindness, care, help and support during her time there.
Cremation has taken place and a private family gathering will take place at a later date.
Should friends choose, a donation can be made in Marla's memory to the MS Society of Canada or other charity of their choice.
