DONALD LOUIS OLSON
August 11, 1929 - January 3, 2020

Donald Louis Olson, born August 11, 1929, in Sprague, Manitoba, passed away January 3, 2020, at his Meadowood Manor residence in Winnipeg, with his family at his side.
Don and Gertrude Angela Wesner, his wife of almost 60 years, settled in Winnipeg where they raised four children. Until his retirement he worked as a diesel mechanic for Powell Equipment Incorporated.
His hobby, a lifelong love of carpentry, started in the lumber mill in Sprague. He made many items of furniture for his family and a special toy box for his grandchildren which will always be treasured. He also enjoyed reading, listening to fiddle music, and became a very good drawer and painter.
He is survived by his wife Gertrude; children, John Olson (Judy), Marna Wheaton (Stephen), Leanne Olson (Rink), and Nancy Olson. He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren, Christina Olson-Johannesen (Adam), Sarah Olson and Eric Olson, along with his great-grandchildren, Casey and Mason Johannesen. He is also survived by his sisters, Delphie Norberg and Doreen Lindquist. Not to mention his many cousins, nieces, nephews, stepgrandchildren, stepgreat-grandchildren and extended family members.
He is predeceased by his parents, Reuben and Florence Olson; brother Cliff Olson; nephew Gordon Olson; and brothers-in-law, Gunner Norberg, Erwin Wesner, and Erling Olimb.
Special thanks to the caregivers at the Poseidon and Meadowood Manor Personal Care Homes.
For all who knew him, please remember Don the way he would have loved - walk in the woods, plant a garden, go berry picking, enjoy a conversation with a stranger, and listen for the geese returning in the spring which was his favourite music of all.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in memory of Don to Parkinson Canada would be appreciated.
A private interment with immediate family members has been held and a Celebration of Life will follow on Friday, February 7, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. to which everyone is welcome.
