OLIVE ISABELLE WILEY

Mom passed away peacefully, on the
morning of January 1, 2020 at Tudor House Personal Care Home in Selkirk at the age of 95 years. Or as she would say "in her 96th year".
She was the youngest and last surviving sibling in a family of 14. Survived by her daughter and "favourite son-in-law", Darlene and Jim Stinson, as well as many nieces and nephews, and friends who were also adopted into the family.
Mom was predeceased by her husband, camping and fishing partner, Dowayne Wiley in November, 2005. Those two never sat still. They loved spending time at Sportsman's
Corner on the Whitemud and hosting weekend bonfires. Mom was an ace at Scrabble, word games and puzzles. She had a dry wit and a quick sense of humour.
Mom was known for her ability to throw
together a meal at a moment's notice, but especially known for her pies and butter tarts. She would supply our fish fry's with her baking, and her butter tarts, became
legendary. After Dowayne's passing, mom spent much more time with us, and we teased her about being our visiting slave, cooking,
ironing, sewing kitchen towels, fishing
towels, and patching our work jeans, that
people thought were designer jeans. She was not happy unless she was able to help in some way.
Unfortunately, in the fall of 2017, mom's health suffered a setback, and she was hospitalized. She could no longer live
independently. We were incredibly fortunate to find a wonderful assisted living facility, Cathedral Manor, located in St. Boniface. As declining health became an issue, mom was panelled, and in April, 2019 became a resident of Tudor House Personal Care Home in
Selkirk.
Our thanks to Cathedral Manor and homecare for going above and beyond during her stay. And we cannot express enough, our gratitude to the wonderful people at Tudor House for the care and compassion shown to my mom.
If so desired, donations in mom's memory may be made to her favourite rescue "Hi Speed Hounds". Greyhounds were her
favourite, and even made a guest appearance at her 90th birthday bash.
A memorial will be held on her birthday weekend, 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 16, 2020 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd.

Family and friends may sign a
book of condolence at www.glenlawn.ca.

  • Olive was a wonderful woman. Her baking never ceased to amazed me. If I ever asked for a recipe, she would say "You'll just have to come back for more!". Her knowledge with the many topics we discussed was always right. I loved listening to her stories. I learned a lot from her and I'm deeply saddened to hear of her passing. She will be dearly missed by so many. My sincerest condolences to Dar & Jim, and everyone who was lucky enough to be a part of her life. May you rest in paradise, Olive. ❤️ - Posted by: Ashley Loughery (Former neighbor ) on: Jan 11, 2020
