DAVE MADDOCKS
September 10, 1962 - January 10, 2020
Dave is survived by his loving wife, Rose, and wonderful children, Stuart and Kathleen. His loss is greatly felt by his mother Carol and stepfather Mike, father Ray and stepmother Sylvia, as well as brothers, Chris and Stuart and their families. Dave is also mourned by extended family in Canada, England, Scotland, and Australia.
Dave was an immensely talented and caring person. He was a graphic designer, a teacher, and an extraordinarily gifted artist. He expressed his artistic talent in his paintings, drawings, photography and snow carvings. He just started a new career as a visual arts teacher and took great pleasure in passing his love of art to his students. Dave had a passion for the outdoors which led to countless canoeing and camping trips and a deep commitment to youth as a Scout leader. Dave had a tender heart which he expressed through his love for all animals, both big and small. He was a loyal friend and a trusted and esteemed colleague. Above all else he was devoted to his family, all of whom will miss him forever.
His family sends their heartfelt love and thanks to everyone who visited Dave in hospital and those who held him in their thoughts.
Also, special thanks to the amazing staff at the Health Sciences Centre who worked tirelessly to provide the best care for him.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Winnipeg Humane Society in memory of Dave.
As per Dave's request, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later time with an announcement of date and location to come.

It’s been very hard to come to terms with the passing of Mr. Maddocks, for me personally but I think I’m ready to pay my own respects. Despite me being shy and never talking, Mr. Maddocks was always very kind to me (something I still appreciate to this day.) That kindness I will never forget. We worked together a lot in the art room at Morris School but due to personal reasons, I was never able to properly get work in, something I now regret deeply. Mr. Maddocks was and still is a huge inspiration to me. I loved his art, kindness, and teaching skills. I am very inspired to become an art teacher of some sort because of him. He’s taught me a lot about art and I will continue to advance my art skills. Sometimes, I don’t think he’s truly gone, I always hear his cheery voice whenever I draw and his words of inspiration. I remember when he would lend me his laptop and show me the tools of Photoshop. We were to master the program along with Illustrator in the 2020-2021 school year and make an application to Red River. I will go forward with my plans in his honour. I can’t thank Mr. Maddocks enough on how much he made me realize that art will forever be what I’m passionate at. Dave was a wonderful coworker and friend. I loved his sense of humour, his gifted talent, and his kindness. He was always upbeat and ready to take on any new challenge. No matter the length of time between seeing each other it was always like yesterday. I was very upset to learn about Dave's untimely passing. Dave and his brothers Stu & Chris came into our lives in the summer of 1976 when they visited their father (Ray) & stepmother (Sylvia) next door to us on Victory Place. We (my brother Jimmy & me) would always look forward to their return visits every summer even though our family moved 2 streets over. I recall it was a great surprise when Dave greeted us at our door one winter day out of the blue - Dave had decided to attend high school in Winnipeg. Dave was an great inspiration artistically & otherwise. I have fond memories of spending many summer days with the Maddocks brothers - a lot of them at the local pool. I would still run into Dave periodically in recent years and he would always bring me up to speed with his life & family's events. My deepest sympathies & prayers go out to Rose, Kathleen & Stuart, Ray, Sylvia, Chris, Stu, Carol & Mike and anyone else I missed who held Dave close to their heart. I remember Dave, Stuart and Chris joining the Victory Place family in the summers as they spent time with Ray and Sylvia. Dave was closer to my age and I remember Dave as a kind, good natured and artistic guy. We bumped into each other a couple of times after high school and it was always a wonderful as we reconnected. I was unaware that Dave was not well and I would have visited him in the hospital, so again I’m so sorry Dave if only I knew. Enjoyed Dave’s company very much. Dane and I started at Morris school as new teachers together. We immediately hit it off and enjoyed some great conversations over the last few years. We attempted to collaborate to support my Alternative students. He supported my own children in their art endeavours. I was an Educational Assistant in Dave’s art room. He was patient with our mutual students and me and greatly enthused with our accomplishments. He encouraged me personally with my artistry. His skill was in challenging students to find careers in art and introduced them to the variety of options they had outside of high school. He gave his own example and also of his vast network of colleagues and friends. He was humble and humorous, a storyteller who noticed everyone. I’m so glad his beloved wife encouraged him to take up teaching and that he did so in our school. He made it clear he proud of his wife and children. Due to my family living in Scotland, I only met Dave on a few occasions but it was a true pleasure to have done so. He always put us first when we visit let’s Canada and nothing was too much trouble.
