ALBERT EDWARD THOMPSON
September 14, 1928 - January 18, 2020
Albert was predeceased by his first wife, Grace, his father George, mother Doris, and his wife of over 40 years, Sylvia. He will be lovingly remembered by his two daughters, Susan (Alexander) and Ann, his grandchildren, Sebastian, Gillian (Adam), Garry, Christopher (Rachael) and Sarah, as well as his great-grandchildren, Jacob, Asher, Emika, Cohen and Tobit.
Albert was born in Glasgow, Scotland before his family moved to Belfast, Ireland where he was raised. Albert went to school at Wolfhill Elementary Public School until the age of 14 when he started as an apprentice iron turner with Combe/Barbour Engineering in Belfast. In 1952, he immigrated to Canada and enjoyed a long career at CN Rail as a machinist. An avid sports fan, Albert was a very accomplished soccer player who became a dedicated soccer coach. In retirement, he discovered Lawn Bowling and competed for many years before serving as an umpire and, once again, a coach. He even convinced a few grandchildren to try their hand from time to time. In recent years, he had begun organizing indoor lawn bowling with fellow residents, often joined by his son-in-law on Saturday afternoons.
As a dedicated grandfather, he was always welcoming and every grandchild knew his and Sylvia's home as a second home. A perpetual joker, he often had a joke or a sly prank to pull. He also took on the ominous task of teaching them to drive. Never was a Christmas card forgotten for even the youngest of great-grandchildren.
A memorial reception will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2020, at 3:00 p.m. at Revera Portsmouth Retirement Residence (125 Portsmouth Blvd., Winnipeg, MB).

My prayers are with you Albert. We spent 30 years of Wednesday Afternoons together. Lawn bowling, cribbage, Kicking tires at Winnipeg car dealers. Wonderful memories securely tucked away. Love you. Bill - Posted by: Bill Bundy (Thirty years of friendship) on: Feb 25, 2020

Our condolences to Susan and Sandy Snidal and their children and grandchildren. May the songs of the angels welcome Albert and guide him along his way. And may the smiles of the martyrs greet his own as darkness turns into day. - Posted by: Cameron and Suzanne Moore (Friend ) on: Feb 22, 2020
