SALIM MICHAEL METAXAS

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Salim Michael Metaxas, in Winnipeg on April 16, 2020, untimely and tragically, at the age of 31.
Left to mourn with broken hearts are his mother Constantina (Jonathan); brothers, Manoah and Jaharqa; uncle Perry (Georgia); grandparents, John (Georgia) and Tammy (Jim). Also left to cherish his memory are his aunts, Anna (Mike) and Lisa, Yordanos; his cousins, and numerous family and friends both in Canada and overseas.
Salim was born on October 27, 1988, in Montreal, and lived with his family in Vancouver before moving to Winnipeg. He was known for his kind gentle heart and quick-witted humour. His childhood was full of happiness and joy, playing with his brothers and his friends and enjoying basketball, swimming, video games, puzzles and board games. He was compassionate and loved animals, especially his beloved dog Toshie. He was smart and did well in school. By grade school he had already become athletic, ultimately playing basketball on both the high school and city teams. He was an avid basketball and football fan, with playoff season being an annual ritual for the entire family. Holiday gatherings, outings, camping with family and friends were among his most cherished memories.
Our family wishes to express tremendous gratitude and appreciation for the many kind wishes that have come from near and far during this difficult time. We are consoled knowing that Salim was so valued and loved, even during the depths of his struggles, and that despite the hardships of his later years his kindness was not forgotten.
A private ceremony and interment will be held on Friday, April 24, 2020 at 1:00 p.m.
