LIONEL JOSEPH GAUTHIER
May 31, 1928 - September 30, 2020

Mom and dad were together for 58 years. He lost his soul mate on July 9th of this year. Dad died of a broken heart, but they are now together again forever.
He will be sadly missed by his son Don (Shari-Lynne), daughter Denise (Danny) and sadly just recently lost his eldest son Roger. Dad also has three grandchildren that he loved dearly, Justin (Danica), Jeremy (Courtney) and Kayla (Stefan).
He was predeceased by his parents, Theodore and Amanda Gauthier; his three brothers, Adrian, Florent, and Emilien; and his two sisters, Anna and Albertine. He is survived by his siblings, Fernand, Aline and Anita, as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.
Dad was obsessed with playing cards, any game that he could get his hands on, knitting beautiful blankets and sweaters for everyone, playing violin and accordion every chance he could. Dad was a dedicated employee of the City of Winnipeg, Waste Department for 33 years, where he made many lifelong friends. Dad also received several awards for his 10 plus years of volunteering at Tache Hospital, which was his passion after he retired.
Our family would like to thank Luce and Levi for everything that they have done for Mom and Dad over the years and Uncle Fern for being such a good little brother to dad. We would also like to thank all of Mom and Dad's friends at Accueil Colombien, especially Dad's shopping/card buddy Lucien Croteau. Our family would also like to give our profound thanks to all the staff at Action Marguerite St. Vital for their unbelievable care that was so compassionately provided.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
Dad will be laid to rest beside Mom at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens.
In accordance to Dad's wishes, a cremation has taken place.

  • My heartfelt sympathy Don, Denise, and families. Mon oncle Nel was such a gentle soul. I have so many wonderful memories over the years of him. When my eldest son was born, he gifted us with one of his beautiful knitted blankets. Both our boys were swaddled in that blanket and it remains a cherished gift all these years later. It's been a tough few months for you all. Sending you love and comfort. - Posted by: Joëlle (Savard) Morgan (Grand-niece) on: Oct 03, 2020

  • My heartfelt sympathies to Don, Denise and families and to all those who were close to Oncle Lionel. The best memories I have of Oncle Lionel are from my childhood when he played the violin at all the Gauthier house parties. When I was 14 years old, I badly wanted an accordion, so Oncle Lionel went out of his way to find me one from a pawn shop in Winnipeg. I still have the accordion and every time I use it, I have heartfelt happy and thankful thoughts of Oncle Lionel. Thinking of you all in a very special way during this difficult time of grieving , Claire Surgenor (Gauthier) - Posted by: Claire Surgenor (Niece) on: Oct 03, 2020
