LOVSTROM: Anders Herbert (Herb) passed away peacefully in the Assiniboine Centre, Brandon, Manitoba on Thursday morning, June 28, 2018. Herb leaves to mourn his passing, his loving wife, Margaret, of 67 years, his children: Wayne (Cheryl), Andrea (David) Allingham, Bruce (Trish), Karen (Barry) Brown, Valerie (Gordon) Russell; grandchildren: Lindsay (Patrick) Gaudet, Brianne (Max) Altmann, Samantha and Samuel Allingham, Kyle (Jade) Lovstrom, Calan (Laine) Lovstrom, Reid and Anya Lovstrom, Cassi (Dan) Ramsay, Tyson (Lisa) Young, Joanie, Julie, Jenny Russell, Janelle (Bobby) Reid; and great grandchildren: Melony Sallows Lovstrom, Sean, Ellie, Charlotte Ramsay, and Russell Reid. Herb is predeceased by his parents Anders and Elin (Olsson) Lofstrom and his half-brother Ivar of Sweden. Herb was born in Chicago IL, USA on May 24, 1929 enroute to the Lac du Bonnet area in Manitoba where his parents homesteaded upon their arrival from Sweden. Herb began his education at a small country school in Newcombe, MB, and went on to completed it by correspondence and moving to Winnipeg from the farm at the age of 16. He began working at Precision Mechanics and achieved a journeyman machinist and tool and dye maker designation. Herb furthered his education by taking metallurgy courses at United College and 2 years of drafting courses at night school. Herb met his wife-to-be, Margaret Tough, at the YMCA Canoe Club in Winnipeg and after dating for 4 years they were married in St. Andrews River Heights United Church on July 21, 1951. Herb and Margaret were blessed with 5 children who were raised in St. Vital. In 1966, Herb enrolled in the University of Manitobas 4-year program in Canadian Industrial Management, from which he graduated in 1970. Also in 1970 the family moved to Brandon, MB when Herb accepted the position of Plant Manager of Behlen Wicks Co. In 1984, Herb was one of five partners who purchased Behlen Wickes from the Wickes Corporation and the business became Behlen Industries. The firm was sold in 1988 to Westman Culvert in Winnipeg and is continuing in business today as Behlen Industries.Upon his retirement in 1988, Herbs interests branched out into market gardening in the summer and woodworking in the winter. During the years 1984 to 1996 herb was active in the Brandon Farmers Market as a producer and seller, and as a member of the Provincial Farmers Market Board. Herb was a proud active member of Brandon Rotary Club since 1984 and held the Presidents chair in 1988. He became an Honourary Member in 2013. Herb will be missed immeasurably both in body and in spirit, but he will live on in our hearts and through our lives and memories.There will be a memorial reception in honour of Herbs life at Rotary Villas, 1340-10th St., Brandon, MB, on Sunday, July 8, 2018 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.
