DOROSHUK: Mary Doroshuk passed away on Monday, July 23, 2018, at the age of 86 years, sister of John Doroshuk, beloved auntie to Debbie (Kelly) Bessette and Karen (Peter) Dmytriw, great-auntie to Justin and Taylor Bessette, Kaitlyn and Dylan Dmytriw. Mary was born during the Great Depression on June 10, 1932 in Stenen, SK to Pauline and Yomen Doroshuk. They farmed in Stenen for a number of years, then in 1954 they moved to a farm they purchased in Margaret, MB. Mary worked in her younger years waitressing at Greyhound Bus Depot and McKenzie Seeds in Brandon. She was a farm girl at heart and she spent most of her life living with her mom and dad on the farm, where there was always something to do, picking tons of strawberries, raspberries, hilling many potatoes, making perogies, cabbage rolls and crocheting. They moved to Brandon July 1, 1976, where again a bountiful garden was a must, and for entertainment she and her mom would go to the Keystone Centre and play bingo every week, even winning a $5,000 jackpot! She loved to dance at barn dances, dance halls, weddings, etc., doing the shotish, polka, waltz were her favorites. Mary had an awesome memory, she would remember every family members birthday and anniversary, always with a card and money. She’d recall dates of things that happened 50 years ago remembering the weather, dates, years, just like it happened yesterday. A funny memory she said that when she was in grade school she was caught chewing gum and the teacher made her put it on her nose for the rest of the class. Mary was happiest when we had family celebrations and holiday get togethers, she loved being around her nieces, Deb and Karen, and always had a good laugh when Kelly and Peter were around, they made her smile, along with great-nieces and nephews, Justin, Kaitlyn, Dylan and Taylor, whom she loved so dearly, and brother John who enjoyed being around his big sister to help in any way. At family celebrations there was always card games being played, she loved playing cards, but Dylan never liked sitting beside her because she always passed him crappy cards in Pass The Ace. She enjoyed walking to nearby garage sales, always proud of her great deals she got, and her garden full of vegetables and flowers kept her busy all summer. Mary celebrated her 86 birthday on June 10 of this year, saying how lucky she was to have had such a long and healthy life. Her greatest struggle was living alone, but she never complained. She waited for someone to ask if she wanted to come for a drive, like her neighbor down the street Sonya Rubeniuk, to take her out to do grocery shopping or just an outing to lunch or a Sunday drive, thank you Sonya for being so good to Aunty Mary, she adored you. Mary was the most kind hearted, unselfish, giving, caring and funny, sister, auntie and great-auntie and we will miss her dearly. Family graveside service was held Monday, July 30 at Brandon Cemetery, with Kim Lewarne officiating. Brockie Donovan Funeral Chapel were in care of arrangements."Vichnaya Pamyat"
