HERSAK: Arnold Theodore January 24, 1940-November 21, 2018. With broken hearts, we announce the passing of Arnold Hersak at the age of 78, peacefully on November 21, 2018 in Calgary, Alberta. This kind and gentle man will be lovingly remembered by his wife Barbara of 55 years, son Doug (Elly), daughter Sheila, son in law Kevin and grandchildren Carson and Samara Blonde. Born on snowy and cold January 24th, 1940 in Oakburn, Manitoba, Mike and Helen raised Arnold and his brothers and sisters on their family farm. After graduating from Shoal Lake Collegiate he achieved a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Manitoba. A rewarding career as an Educator and an Administrator followed until his retirement in 1996. Being such an optimistic, patient and generous person contributed to his successful career and ability to build meaningful relationships with family and friends. Our creative adventurer could build and fix anything and approached each challenge methodically and persistently. He was self taught on several musical instruments, enjoyed woodworking, loved reading and would often memorize and recite his favourite poetry. Whether snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, canoeing or cooking over his beloved fire pit at his Oak Lake cabin, he loved the outdoors. Perhaps, the role held dearest to his heart was being the best Papa to his prized grandchildren. His positive influence is evident in these two amazing individuals. Memories of Arnold will be treasured by his extensive extended family including his sister Evelyn (Mel Zemliak), brothers Zane and Eugene, brother in law Daryle Kachan as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and countless friends. He was predeceased by his parents Mike and Helen, sister Karen and brother Barry. Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Hollowoy (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle N.W., Calgary, Alberta), on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to their local Alzheimer Society or to another charity of choice. In living memory of Arnold Hersak, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle N.W., Calgary, Alberta, T3G 2T3, telephone: 403-241-0044.
