JAGO: Verna Ethel Jago (nee Dobbyn) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 with family by her side at the Assiniboine Centre. Verna had been battling cancer since 2014. She went into the hospital on February 27, 2019 and was transferred to the Assiniboine Centre on March 11, 2019. Verna was born June 12, 1946, she is the oldest daughter of Sid and Dorothy Dobbyn. Verna was pre-deceased by her parents, grandson Jacob, sister Flora Nicholls and husband Alvin, and two brother-in-laws Jim Stanley and Lyle Jago. Her youngest sister, Glenys Stanley, is the only surviving member of the family. Verna graduated high school in Melita, Manitoba, before moving to Brandon, Manitoba to work for a mens clothing store, she then returned to Melita to work at the local hospital. On August 16, 1969 Verna married George J. Jago, fourth son of Ernest and Elizabeth Jago of Reston, Manitoba. After living in Melita for a while they moved to Brandon on July 1, 1970 and have spent the last 48 plus years in Brandon. Verna and George have six children (three boys and three girls) Rob (Debbie) of Ottawa, James (Shawna) of Edmonton, Larry (Melissa) of Brandon, Annie (Wayne) of Shilo, Patti (Andrew) of Edmonton and Jennifer (Alex) of Edmonton, and their families. George & Verna have 15 grandchildren, and this summer would have been their 50th Wedding Anniversary. The loves of Vernas life were her husband, her children, her grandchildren, the Toronto Blue Jays baseball team, curling, and her 45 years associated with bowling. Roberto Alomar of the Blue Jays was her favourite ball player and she had the pleasure of meeting him in 2017. The Celebration of Verna's Life was held at Memories Chapel on Friday, April 5, 2019. Funeral Celebrant Lydia Glawson officiated. A private family interment followed at Rosewood Memorial Gardens.
