EVA BIALLY
Nov. 24, 1922-Oct. 4, 2018
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Eva Bially, at the age of 95, on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018 at the Morris General Hospital, Morris, MB.
Eva will be missed and remembered by daughter Carol (Ken), son Michael (Kathy), grandchildren Jeri-Lynn (Kevin), Jill (Warren), Michael (Jennifer), Keith, Chelsea (Chirag) and great-grandchildren Abrianna, Ben and Arjun. She also enjoyed her families’ loving dogs, Hemingway and Hazel, Moses, Hank and Lucy.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Mike in 1997 and her parents Theodosy and Anna Wachna, as well as seven sisters and seven brothers along with her father and mother-in-law Lukian and Anna Bially and sister and brothers-in-law.
Eva grew up in Stuartburn, MB where she loved swimming, skating and canoeing. One winter, when the Roseau River froze before snowfall, a 12-year-old Eva and her brother Boris skated 14 miles down the river to Gardenton to surprise their father.
She attended grades 11 and 12 at St Joseph’s Academy in St Boniface College and earned her teaching certificate. She taught in the southern Manitoba area for many years.
She excelled in Ukrainian dancing, beginning at the age of 10, and in square dancing when she was in her 70’s. She was a long-time Blue Jays and Jets fan. She also took a keen interest in politics at all levels.
Eva lived her life with integrity, honesty and compassion for others. Since the passing of her husband, her faith in God and her sense of humor sustained her in difficult times. She truly became an independent woman.
Her greatest joy was her family. She delighted in their achievements, whether academic or sporting. Eva was a long-time active member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League and Tolstoi and District Seniors, serving in various executive positions. She always felt that community involvement enriched her life.
Mother’s love and generous giving will always be remembered. Our family has truly been blessed and our lives enriched by her kindness and selflessness. We are thankful that she lived a long, healthy and fulfilling life. Thanks Mom for your constant love and support. You are truly the best and will be deeply missed.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Morris Hospital for the exceptional care and kindness they provided to Mom.
A prayer service was held on Monday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.
The funeral service was held on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 10 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church, Tolstoi, MB with a burial to follow at the Overstoneville Independent Cemetery, Tolstoi, MB.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Eva may be made to the Overstoneville Independent Cemetery or the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
