It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our dear father and grandfather, Albert, who passed away on July 20, 2015 at the Bethesda Regional Health Centre at the age of 79.
Dad was predeceased by our mother Martha, his parents, numerous siblings, his in-laws and 1 brother-in-law. Dad is survived by his children Brian (Debbie), Rachel (Ken) Lachnit, Barry and Tim. He is survived by his grandchildren who were the apple of his eyes, Heather (Evan) and Craig (Brittaney) and Bronte.
Dad was born on December 25, 1935 in Lottum, Netherlands. He was the 1 of 15 children born to Anna and Arnold Poels. In 1957 at the young age of 22 Dad immigrated to Canada. Dad married our mom, Martha, and celebrated almost 43 years of marriage before her passing in July of 2003. Together they raised 4 children, Brian, Rachel, Barry and Tim. Our Dad worked various jobs and was in the plumbing and heating business before he retired. Mom and Dad moved numerous times in their married life but their last move was to Woodridge to be close with their grandchildren.
Dad always loved animals and always had a hobby farm and his passion was raising birds. Our Dad enjoyed the simple things in life and most of all loved being with his family. Dad recently underwent open heart surgery on April 28 of this year. On July 10 we were given the news that Dad had terminal cancer. Thank you to the doctors and nurses at Bethesda Regional Health Centre, to our family and friends for their support and to Bill Dyck of Birchwood Funeral Chapel.
Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, July 25 at the St. Alexander Parish in Woodridge at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the Parish Cemetery.
