ALEXANDER DONALD ANTHONY
1935 - 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Alexander Donald Anthony on October 17, 2020, at the age of 84.
He was predeceased by his parents, Alex and Myrtle; and brothers, Leonard and Brian. Dad is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joyce Anthony; and his daughters, Sharon (Neil), Diane (Peter), Cindy (Scott) and son Donald. Also surviving is his brother Stan and his wife Jean. He will also be sadly missed by his six granddaughters, Jessica, Kendall, Carly, Jasmin, Christine and Paige; as well as grandson Jamie and all of his great-grandchildren.
Dad enjoyed a long career with CN and as a result of an early retirement he was able to enjoy what he was passionate about. It was his grandchildren that reaped the benefits of this time. He loved to gather his granddaughters up in the Cadillac and spend the day at the beach, take them for lunch, and chauffeur them when they needed rides. As they grew up he instilled in them the importance of an education, keeping your battery posts clean, and having a good sense of humour. Dad had a special relationship with his youngest granddaughter, Paige. We will all remember dad for his caring ways, generosity and laughter.
Dad also had a passion for tennis. He was a member for many years at the Winnipeg Canoe Club and the University of Manitoba where he honed his skills. Late into his seventies dad was still seen hitting the ball around at the Norwood courts, still a tough opponent. Although not an avid golfer, Dad worked part-time marshalling and maintaining carts at Larters at St. Andrews Golf Course. His sense of humour was appreciated by many and we often heard the comment "best marshal". As Dad's ability to get around declined, he found companionship with his St. Vital Mall coffee group and the family would like to thank them for that (a special thanks to Doug for his friendship and for bringing Dad home safely so often.) Dad had many friends who will miss him but none more than Al and John.
The family would also like to thank the St. Boniface Hospital Emergency Department for their help and compassion shown to mom in the days prior to his passing.
Cremation has taken place.
Due to Covid 19 there will not be a service at this time. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
