(GEE KIM MARK)
February 18, 1932 - October 15, 2020
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beautiful mom, Pearl Kim Yip (Gee Kim Mark), on October 15, 2020, at the age of 88 years, surrounded by family in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Mom was predeceased by her husband, Howard Choon Yip (May 9, 1976) and her son, Ku Kent Yip (June 15, 2004). Mom leaves to mourn her passing, daughters: Faye Jean Parkes (Nelson), Chemainus, BC; Faye Lian Yip (Ken Thevenot), Okotoks, AB; Effie Monson (Wayne), Elsie Yip and Fayyoule Yip Bruce, Winnipeg, MB. She was "Grandma", Nyen", "Poipoi" to 16 grandchildren and "Buk" to 11 great-grandchildren. Mom was born in Toishan, Kwungtung, China on February 18, 1932. She is survived by one brother, two sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
Mom immigrated to Canada and married Dad on January 23, 1957 in Prince Albert, SK. In 1959 they moved to Lynn Lake, MB where Dad was a chef at the Fairview Hotel. In 1970 they became proprietors of the iconic Wong's Grill that served up the famous "Chips and Gravy" amongst other Canadian and Chinese dishes. After the mine closure, Mom moved to Port Coquitlam, BC where she retired in 1990. Her strong will and independent nature enabled her to get to her social activities despite her language barrier - these include dim sum, karaoke, dancing and watching her grandchildren play hockey until 1:00 a.m., which earned her the title "Team Grandma" and the "#1 Fan" jersey.
In 2014, Mom moved back to Winnipeg to be closer to her daughters and their families and continued to live independently. Mom was easygoing and very eager to attend any event that her daughters and grandchildren brought her to. In 2019 Mom became a resident at Riverwood Square (The Landing) for a brief while, but due to the pandemic crisis we felt it was best to have her back home where she could be embraced with daily hugs and tender care. Each day was blessed with "I Love You" phone calls and FaceTime with her family from near and afar, especially the little grand and great-grandchildren.
Mom will always be remembered for her infectious smile, warm and kind heart. We will always cherish the great memories... your love and devotion to the family is an inspiration in each and every one of us, and will be forever instilled in our hearts.
Ever Remembered, Ever Loved
The family would like to acknowledge, with heartfelt gratitude, all the kindnesses that everyone have bestowed upon our dear, loving mom and to all of us - Thank you!
Mom will be interred at Elmwood Cemetery, reunited now with Dad, on October 26, 2020.

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your mom. She had a smile to light up a room and I'm sure will be dearly missed. Funny... my kids have only met your mom once, but always remember her as the cute little grandma. We just spoke of her last week! She's always been so kind to our family.
