WALTER (WALLY) STEWART MACAULAY
January 23, 1931 - October 21, 2020

Peacefully, while taking his afternoon nap, Wally passed away on October 21, 2020, at the age of 89. He is now in the loving arms of the love of his life, wife Joan.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his children, Greg and wife Kerry, Pam and husband Sander Arnaud, and Sandra and husband Len Connolly, his beloved grandchildren, Blair, Scott (Kelly) and Meghan Macaulay, Carley (Shawn) Arnaud and Braden and Cameron (Marlene) Connolly and his great-grandchild Malcolm Connolly.
He was predeceased by his wife Joan in 2002, and siblings, Ruby, Allan and Donna as well as many close and cherished family and friends.
Dad was born in Winnipeg and raised in Norwood where he made many lifelong friends. He met and married the "Perfect" woman, Joan Miller in 1954. They settled in Windsor Park, and raised their family. Dad spent most of his career in the travel industry and finished it off in Real Estate. We will all cherish the loving family life and the wonderful memories of vacations and great times at the family cottage on Lake Winnipeg. Dad loved sports and was an avid hockey player and golfer while growing up. One of his greatest passions was following and being part of all his grandchildren's hockey, ringette and dance recitals. He was clearly their #1 Fan.
As per Dad's wishes, there will be no service. Arrangements entrusted to Glen Lawn Funeral Home.
Wally loved all children. He always had a pocket full of candy and made new little friends wherever he went.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Children's Wish Foundation.
Pour yourselves one of Dad's favourite drinks, a Rum and Coke, and toast a life well lived and well loved. He will be in our stories often and in our hearts always! Rest easy Dad (Papa). Give Mom (Nana) a big hug from us all.

Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • I last saw Wally at my father's funeral in May 2018. Unfortunately I never had the opportunity to speak to him. Now that conversation will never happen. Wally was a great guy, as the son of one of his friends, (Jack) I only have fond memories of the man. I've never met a more content group of guys, who seemed happy until the end. Only Al Jeffery remains the last one standing. In a way I viewed them then in my 20's as the local Rat Pack. A group of friends with solid marriages, strong families, career success, and years of good retirement. Wally was my agent when I bought my first house. Upon approaching it he commented, "looks like it's ready for the wreaking ball." SOLD! I miss them all, the kindness and charisma will be missed. - Posted by: Don McMahon (Family friend ) on: Feb 01, 2021

  • Our hearts are filled with saddness to hear the loss of Uncle Walter. I will always remember his great love for me as a kid. My kids also have found memories of Uncle Walter. At family get togethers, the kids were so excited to see him as he always made such a fuss of them. There was always lots squealing and laughter. Uncle Walter had a big heart and cared about those in his life. He had a great smile and shared lots of great stories. He holds a special spot in our hearts...he will be missed! Cheers and big hugs to everyone in heaven!! - Posted by: Marilyn Wentland (Niece) on: Nov 04, 2020

  • Wally was the quintessential gentleman, always gracious and kind. He enjoyed telling stories about growing up in Norwood, but most of all, he loved to talk about his grandchildren. Condolences to those he left behind. - Posted by: Ron Lamontagne (MacDo coffee friend) on: Nov 02, 2020

  • So sad to hear of Walter's passing....as he is always in our hearts especially when we are at Chalet Beach and can still hear his presence and laughter... We loved him from them moment we met him when he sold us the Beach Lighthouse in his real estate days..and then became our neighbour and dear friend for over 30 years....as well as a substitute grandfather to our son JJ who never got to know his own. JJ would love to run over after dinner to play cards wtih Walter (who taught him a few tricks) and Jack and Donna with his jar of pennies on a warm summer eve... Walter had a kind heart and showed tremendous patience as we worked tiredlessly to save our cottages in the days of high waters throwing sandbags. He was lean and always fit and could do more than any man of his age. We also enjoyed our traditional "Happy Hours" every week-end where we would listen to his interesting stories, he would show amuzement at ours, and Jo and he would share their mutual love of Wilbur Smith novels and rum and coke: ) He also loved puppies and dogs..and would not so secretly share a nibble of the treats with the pups who hung around the table mostly seated by him. We will miss you Walter...but will enjoy the happy memories we have of you for years to come.. (The chipmunks at Chalet beach are missing your hand-outs too: ) Johann, Joanne and JJ Sigurdson - Posted by: Johann Joanne and Johann IV Sigurdson (Close Friend and Beach neigbour) on: Nov 01, 2020

  • At 4 years old I was Flower Girl at Joan and Wally’s wedding. He was my first love, so I held his hand the entire day and couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t go one the Honeymoon with them. He was the world’s best tickler, and would always tickle me when over for dinner. I think Pam was almost born in the living room floor because I didn’t want him to go with Joan to the hospital. Growing up I spent a lot of time at the house in Windsor Park, babysitting whenever the opportunity arose. Joan and Wally were a big part of my life growing up, and helped make me the person I am today. Say hi to everyone in heaven for me Wally. Your smile will live in my heart forever. Love you “Uncle” Wally. - Posted by: Susan Dolinski (Cousin) on: Oct 31, 2020
