BERNICE GLIDDON
April 1, 1936 - November 6, 2020
Bernice is survived by her loving family including her children, Shannon and Shawn, granddaughters, Sarah and Elliette (Carla), sisters, Shirley (Octave), Lu (Oril), Bev (Mo), Donna, and Linda and brothers, Bill, and Jim (Nancy).
Born and raised on a farm in St. Andrews, MB, Mom was the third oldest of 11 children. Playing with her siblings on the farm, she would later joke that "she used to be a blue eyed blonde but met one to many cow patties that turned her to a brown eyed brunette."
At the age of ten, the family moved to Winnipeg where Mom completed her high school education. She then worked various clerical and factory jobs. At the age of 23, she started her career with the Bank of Nova Scotia. In her early 20s, she met her future husband, John Gliddon (Jack), and they were married in August, 1961. Ten years later they had their first child and four years later their second. Mom instilled in her children the value of hard work and the love of music. Many Saturday nights were spent listening to the polka party on the radio with a few dances in between. When the music was on she had to move along with it.
After 38 years of service, Mom retired and in her retirement years, she enjoyed her weekly bowling league, traveling with her husband throughout Canada, until his passing in 2009, she then would travel with her sisters, in groups or with her daughter which brought her to memorable places like New York, Philippines and the Southern states. She enjoyed babysitting her granddaughters, and her beloved curling and Winnipeg Blue Bomber watching, when those were on, the world would stop and she would be enthralled.
Mom had a wonderful sense of humor and could tell a story to a group of people that had them laughing right along with her. She was also a very determined lady. If you told her she couldn't do something, she showed you she could. In the later stages of her illness, the paramedics wanted to help her onto the stretcher, in typical fashion Mom told them "I have bowled in a league for many years, I can do it myself".
You will be missed dearly, but we know you will continue to dance and tell stories when you are reunited with your beloved husband, family and friends.
Shannon and Shawn would like to thank Dr. David Dawe, Dr. Chris Johnston, Dr. Kim Wiebe, Palliative care team, Ambulance Services, family and friends for their care, kindness and support.
Due to Covid -19 restrictions, celebrations will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Foundation Manitoba. 1160-675 McDermott, Winnipeg Manitoba, R3E 0V9.

It was with great sadness that I received news of Bernice’s passing on Nov. 6, 2020. My sincere condolences go out to her daughter Shannon, and her son Shawn and his family. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this very sad and difficult time. My husband William (who, sadly, passed away earlier this year), and I met Bernice and Shannon at a Fehr Way Tours presentation early in 2016. The presentation was about an upcoming trip and tour of New York City in August of that year. We did decide to take the trip and during that time, the four of us gravitated toward each other, and shared the fun, excitement, and memories of our adventure. Our friendship with Bernice continued after that trip and we met several times for lunch and a good visit with each other to see what was going on in each of our lives. I last spoke with Bernice around the middle of August, never dreaming it would be my last conversation with her. Thank you for your friendship, Bernice, I will miss you and think of you often. May you Rest now In Peace and know others care. God Bless. - Posted by: Ethel Brown (Friend) on: Nov 21, 2020

Saddened to learn of Bernice's passing, condolences to Shannon and Shawn and families. I first met Bernice at Scotiabank (Dakota Village), Sept. 1974. She trained me as a teller and fortunate for me, she was patient/kind! Got to know Jack as well during this time. We had a joint going away party on the river boat, Bernice was going on maternity leave and I to another branch, yes she danced! We also worked together for 11 yrs at the Data Centre up until Nov/97, Bernice always kept in touch with Karen and I via Christmas cards or getting together for lunch, when she was visiting Shannon here in Calgary. We were blessed to know her and will miss her dearly. Karen and Wayne - Posted by: Wayne Eagleston (Friend and coworker) on: Nov 20, 2020
