LAUREEN ANN YEE-WEN LU
September 14, 1966 - October 31, 2020

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Laureen - beloved daughter, sister and aunt. Laureen passed away at St. Boniface General Hospital on Saturday, October 31, 2020.
Laureen leaves to mourn brothers, John (Caroline) and Paul (Jennifer); and nieces, Grace and Olivia (Paul and Jennifer). Laureen was predeceased by parents, Lawrence and Alice.
Born in Vancouver, BC, Laureen grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was an alumnus of St. John's-Ravenscourt School (1984) and earned her law degree at the University of Manitoba (1991). She practiced for close to 25 years at various Winnipeg-based firms before forming her own partnership as a civil defence lawyer.
Laureen was an accomplished singer and actor, dabbled in piano, and relaxed by tranquilly knitting gifts for family and friends after ruthlessly vanquishing opponents in her evening pool leagues.
Laureen will be remembered and cherished as an exceptionally loving, compassionate, wise, thoughtful and generous soul, possessing a sharp mind with an equally sharp tongue. Her quick wit and distinctive laugh instantly signalled her presence in a room. Her fierce loyalty and devotion as a friend, sibling and lover of all furry little creatures will leave a permanent impression on those who shared the ride alongside her unique spirit.
Due to current Covid-19 circumstances there will be a live streaming of Laureen's Celebration of Life service should friends and family wish to attend virtually at 2:00 p.m. CDT, Friday, November 20, 2020, at: http://www.livememorialservices.com/Home/ServiceDetail/7707
To honour Laureen's memory, donations to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation (www.heartandstroke.ca), the Canadian Mental Health Association (www.cmha.ca), or a children's charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.

Family and friends may sign a book of condolence at www.glenlawn.ca.

Condolences & Memories (12 entries)

  • I reach out with sadness as I read this while trying to look for her. I must share the wonderful experience I had with her as my lawyer. She represented me in a real estate case and she was the best!!!! I had nothing but admiration for her as a lawyer and a woman. I am sure there are countless memories like mine and I wanted to share. - Posted by: Sheila Jensen (She was my lawyer) on: Apr 20, 2022

  • I first became acquainted with Laureen from the CPA Pool League and then Aactive Pool League. Her hearty laugh resonated through an entire room. Her kindness and willingness to talk, laugh and listen settles in my heart. I just learned of her tragic passing yesterday. She serves as an example of what a person should be. Thank you Laureen for a gift of knowing you. My condolences to you family and friends. - Posted by: Theresa Davis (friend) on: Dec 19, 2020

  • Laureen was very kind and warm person that I and everyone else had a pleasure to know. Every time I would see her at one of the many pool halls, she would always come over and give me a big ol hug. I will miss those warm hugs and her laughter. Rest in peace my friend. - Posted by: Ted Lamoureux (Friend) on: Dec 01, 2020

  • I can say, without a shadow of doubt, that Laureen was most definitely one of the most sincere and kindest people I have ever met. She shared some life changing words of wisdom with me. She just made the world a better place to be. Although we weren’t really close, she always made time for me. Thank you Laureen. God bless - Posted by: Shelly Duffney (Friend) on: Nov 17, 2020

  • She was at SMA for juniour high school. In grade nine, Laureen and I co-wrote and acted in a play called "Culture Clash," where I played a diner waitress and she played a wealthy diner. We played to type, I guess. I believe it was her last year at St Mary's Academy, before she transferred to St. John's Ravenscourt for grade 10. RIP, Laureen. My sympathy to her family and friends. - Posted by: Mia Sally Correia (Classmate) on: Nov 17, 2020
