DONNA MARIE (KEITH) FRIESEN
October 5, 1950 - December 1, 2020

Peacefully and without pain Donna passed away at 19:45 on December 1, 2020, at Health Sciences Centre.
Donna was born October 5, 1950 at St. Boniface Hospital and her early years were spent on the family farm in Otterburne, Manitoba. She moved to St. Vital in 1952 where her father eventually built the family home on St. Vital Road. Donna went to Dakota Collegiate where she met the love of her life Ken Wayne Friesen who she eventually married in 1973. Donna began a career at Investors Group in 1968 as a Tax Redemption Clerk, retiring in 2006. She enduringly earned the title "the Tax Bitch" for her doggedness in balancing multi-million dollar files to the penny.
Donna was an excellent seamstress and would spend many hours with her sewing machine working on outfits for the girls. She would also make outfits that she would wear to work.
Upon retirement, Donna spent numerous spring and summer hours working in her garden and flower beds on St. George Road. Many winters were spent in Palm Desert with Ken, as well as numerous trips south with her "Florida Girls". Donna also enjoyed her new found time in retirement to expand her creativity and talents through numerous crafts such as card making and scrapbooking.
Donna loved to entertain and no one would ever leave her home hungry, due to the fact that she was an excellent cook and a fantastic hostess.
Donna was predeceased by her father Wilbert Awrey Keith in 1973 and her mother Marie Rebecca (Hladun) Keith in 2020. Donna is survived by her husband Ken, by children, Jamie Cole (Nathan) and Christy Friesen. Also left to mourn are grandchildren, Hailie Friesen, Caitlin Friesen and Callista Cole.
Donna's legacy was her family, two daughters and three grandchildren. Her hope was that they would emulate the love and joy she shared with each of them.
Donna will be greatly missed by her many friends, some of whom she was still in contact with since high school.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to CancerCare Manitoba.
A memorial gathering will be held at a later date.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • I haven’t seen Donna for 15 years (when I moved), Donna & Ken were the best neighbours I ever had. She was always so helpful & kind. She would almost always make an extra sour cream blueberry cake and kindly give it to me when she was baking. Together Donna & Ken were the best hosts & I always looked forward to an evening at “The Friesen’s”. I’m flooded with memories of all the great times we had together. My thoughts go out to Ken & the girls. I’m so sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Larry Denchuk (Former neighbour & friend) on: Dec 13, 2020

  • We are so sorry for your tremendous loss. Mandy will always have fond memories of ‘Granny’s’ kindness & hospitality. It will not be forgotten ❤️ Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. - Posted by: Lesley & Mandy (Family Friends) on: Dec 13, 2020

  • Heartfelt condolences to the Friesen family. Donna was an amazing person all around. We attended many 'pool' parties followed with an amazing dinner and fabulous dessert. Great cook and hostess! Donna, you definitely made a difference during you short life here! Rest in peace, my friend! Barb and Gord Cooke - Posted by: Barb and Gord. Cooke (Friends) on: Dec 13, 2020

  • Heartfelt condolences to the Friesen family regarding the loss of your wonderful Wife, Mom and Grandma. Donna and I both started work at Investors Group in the late 60’s and although we knew each other, didn’t get close until we started travelling much later. Anyone who knew Donna was aware of how talented she was, she was exceptionally good at whatever she tackled. Cooking, baking (oh how we’ll miss her deserts), sewing, cross stitch, scrapbooking and so much more. Our card game get togethers will never be the same. Till we meet again Donna, you’ll be missed. - Posted by: Penny Coutts (Florida Friend) on: Dec 12, 2020
