JOHN JORDISON

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father and grandfather, John Jordison on December 6, 2020 with family by his side.
John leaves to mourn his daughter Susan and son-in-law Alain Landry; his daughter Karen and son-in-law David Agopsowicz and his five grandchildren, Rachelle and Rielle Landry and Danielle, Adam and Zac Agopsowicz.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Mary. Now they are reunited in heaven and will live forever in our hearts.
John was born May 23, 1931 in England to John and Dorina Jordison. He was the eldest of eight children. He attended school till the eighth grade and then went on to do farm work with his family. He dreamed of going to Canada to seek his fame and fortune. He saved his money for three years to make his dream a reality. With a home-made suitcase containing coveralls, work boots, wrenches and clothes, he boarded the Atlantic in 1952 with his brother Allan and made the journey to Halifax. He ventured west working on farms along the way, from Montreal to Winnipeg. After given the opportunity to work on farm machinery, he attended industrial diesel classes at night and obtained certification in Diesel Mechanics.
While purchasing tools, he was directed to see a service manager at Powell Equipment and was hired immediately. This was his dream job and his work took him to many northern locations, working on many of the major Manitoba power projects and northern highways. He always fondly shared tales of his work adventures. He remained at Powell's until his retirement in 1990.
He met his wife Mary at Powell's, as she ran the cafeteria. After a whirlwind courtship they married, purchased the home where he resided for 52 years, and adopted two daughters. He became a Canadian citizen in 1966.
John was never one to sit around. There were many adventures, camping, travelling to Florida, beach days and skating and tobogganing at St. Vital Park. He purchased a cottage in Sandy Bay in 1977 that he spent many hours upgrading. The family all have loving memories of this special place. He was extremely handy and could fix anything. He loved tinkering in his garage, stoking the fire for hours. He was always willing to lend a hand to family, friends and neighbours. Anyone who met him would remember him fondly for his quiet, sweet and patient nature. His influence was felt by many.

Rest in peace JJ (Big John). We love you.

Due to the current situation, a private family interment will be occurring. It is our intention to plan a Celebration of Life at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Parkinson's Society would be appreciated.

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • Our deepest sympathies go to Susan and Al Landry and Karen and Dave Agopsowicz and their families for your loss. John was our neighbour for almost 40 years. In so many ways he was a kind and thoughtful person who was an eternal optimist, especially when "the stocks are up today, Max." His mechanical expertise was called upon by us on more than one occasion. His good naturedness was endless in putting up with the children's loud voices, running in his yard and the stray balls while playing outside. These are just a few of the qualities John possessed that we appreciated and miss. - Posted by: Maxine & Richard Balbon (Neighbour) on: Dec 20, 2020

  • He was so kind and generous and always willing to help when you asked. When Covid infiltrated the nursing home where John lived, Susan and Al took him into their home, John referred to them as angels. The love he had for his girls was unfounded. We lost a wonderful human being on Dec 6th. - Posted by: Joanne (Family) on: Dec 19, 2020

  • So sorry to hear about your loss. I remember meeting John a few times. He seemed like he was a kind a gentle soul. Our prayers are with you all. Tony Guffei and family. - Posted by: Tony Guffei (Friend of Susan) on: Dec 12, 2020

  • My uncle Johnny was a wonderful addition to our family. He was kind and gentle and loving and always had a funny line or two! He thoroughly loved life and his family. He was so proud of his children and grandchildren. I know there's a special place in Heaven where he has reunited with his beloved wife, my Aunty Mary. I thank God for having known such wonderful, caring people. Rest in peace.💖 - Posted by: Jennifer (Barnes) on: Dec 12, 2020

  • John was a very clever and humble man. He could fix anything he put his mind to. He welcomed us into his family’s lives with no hesitation, and how appreciated this was. RIP John with Mary. You will be missed. - Posted by: Fran & Laurie Giles (Friends of his daughters.) on: Dec 12, 2020

  • Our condolences to Karen & Suzie on the passing of your father. We have so many great memories of both your parents as well as Karen & Suzie-- who were often in our back yard playing and who often babysat our 2 sons, Jason & Jeff. I fondly remember Johnny as always tinkering on Mary' Volkswagon bug and answering Jason's endless questions.. Best neighbors ever! - Posted by: Rick & Louanne Anderson (Next door neighbor) on: Dec 12, 2020
